Usher Reveals “Curious” Details About Living With Diddy During Howard Stern Interview
In a recent turn of events, an old interview with Usher has surfaced, shedding light on his time living with Sean “Diddy” Combs. The 2016 interview, hosted by Howard Stern, provided a glimpse into Usher’s experiences during his stay with the music mogul.
During the interview, Usher, now 45, recounted his time living with Diddy in New York City when he was just 13 years old. He described the experience as eye-opening, mentioning “very curious things taking place” during his stay.
The R&B star elaborated, revealing that his time with Diddy exposed him to a lifestyle he had never encountered before. Surrounded by famous artists like Biggie Smalls, Lil’ Kim, and Mary J. Blige, Usher found himself immersed in a world of music and extravagance.
When questioned about late-night partying sessions, Usher admitted to keeping up with Diddy’s entourage until the early hours of the morning, describing the experience as “pretty crazy.”
Responding to a question about whether he would send his own children to a similar environment, Usher vehemently responded with a firm “Hell, no.”
In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Usher reminisced about his time at Diddy’s “Flavor Camp,” where he learned invaluable lessons about entrepreneurship and creativity. He highlighted Diddy’s influence on his career, emphasizing the importance of hard work and dedication.
“I can remember Outkast making their first records and being able to hear Rico [Wade] work on these songs, literally sleeping in this man’s living room, being in the dungeon, just kind of being around and just trying to figure out who’s who,” he recounted.
Speaking about the first time he went to New York for music, having gotten invited by Diddy, Usher said, “Some of the most valuable lessons I could ever learn as an entrepreneur were picked up when I spent that time in New York with him, this unwavering desire to create and make certain that your creative ideas executed. I saw him in the real time working it out, him building something from nothing, him understanding how culture and collaboration could build careers. Being able to see that, that’s what I got.”
However, recent events have cast a shadow over Diddy’s properties, with federal agents conducting raids amid sex trafficking allegations. The raids, which targeted Diddy’s homes in Los Angeles and Miami, have sparked controversy even though his legal team has condemned the raid.
In a statement released by his attorney Aaron Dyer, the raids were denounced as an excessive use of force.
“There was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences. There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated,” Dyer said, adding, “This unprecedented ambush — paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”
