Vanessa Lachey Breaks Down and Reveals Struggles With Nick
Each couple has their own story—how the relationship started, the struggles of maintaining it, and so on. During the second season of the reality show Netflix production, The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, Vanessa Lachey, one of the show’s hosts, broke down while discussing her marriage.
Vanessa has been married to Nick Lachey for 11 years. The 42-year-old actress revealed that she and 49-year-old Nick have known each other and have been together for 16 years. They have three children: 10-year-old Camden, 8-year-old Brooklyn, and 6-year-old Phoenix.
While hosting, Vanessa shared that although they’ve been married for over a decade, they didn’t learn more about each other until they agreed to attend therapy sessions.
Tearing up, Vanessa explained, “We do not need to get into this, but it messes with your relationship. And the reason why I’m choking up is because I’ve had to get through so much s—t to be the best woman for Nick. To find that person that I can trust and that can carry me through is what made us unstoppable.”
She added that it’s important for couples to talk and be open to their partner, especially if they found the person they’ll spend their lives with. Vanessa continued, “It’s so freeing to tell everything to them, and them still be there to pick you up. It’s really beautiful. And if they don’t, I’ve had other guys who [have done] that, and they’re not the guy I married.”
The second season of the show premiered last August 23. The highly anticipated series follows five new couples. By the end of the season, these couples will have to decide if they want to continue the relationship and get engaged, hook up with someone else, or go home single.
The plot of the show is something that interests people, and it has generous ratings. Though Nick and Vanessa are doing acceptable jobs as hosts, they have yet to win the hearts of many viewers.
In addition to The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On, the couple also hosted two seasons of Love Is Blind, another reality dating show that’s streaming on Amazon Prime. Because viewers were so unsatisfied with their performances, a petition was created to have them replaced on the show. According to the petition on Change.org, “They seem to be much more concerned with directing as much attention at themselves and their personal lives rather than focusing on the contestants that are actually participating in the experiment. Many enjoy the show but it’s being held back from its full potential with cringy Nick and Vanessa Lachey.”
As of writing, it has more than 45,000 signatures.
Many viewers were left unimpressed, frustrated, and even angered by Nick and Vanessa’s performance during the show’s first live reunion. The couple was accused of hoarding the camera and being biased and insensitive.
Viewers mainly had issues with Vanessa because she has a habit of constantly grilling contestants’ about their plans of having children. Her weird baby obsession has been off-putting for a lot of viewers.
As a result, the couple weren’t invited to host the series’ spin-off, The Ultimatum: Queer Love. JoAnna Garcia Swisher took her role. However, it looks like Netflix thinks that Nick and Vanessa are a perfect fit because they are back for the show’s second season.
