Victoria Beckham Reveals The Real Reason Behind Her Famous Steely Pout
Victoria Beckham may have been famous for her steely pout, but the fashion designer has revealed a surprising reason behind her once-serious demeanor: insecurity about her skin. In a candid interview with The Telegraph, the 50-year-old explained how years of acne and self-consciousness kept her from smiling in public photos.
Admitting that she felt “so uncomfortable,” Victoria reflected on her rise to fame in her twenties while battling problematic skin. “Probably I did look stern in a lot of pictures, but I was so uncomfortable,” she shared.
Her insecurities didn’t stop at her public appearance. Victoria’s struggles with her skin also shaped her famously strict diet. She revealed that she has eaten grilled fish and steamed vegetables every day for 25 years. “It was because of my skin that I became very careful about what I ate,” she explained, cutting out foods like meat and wheat to keep her complexion clear.
These days, though, Victoria has found a new sense of confidence. With advice from skincare experts and a meticulous routine, she feels comfortable in her own skin — literally. “If you’d told me a few years ago I’d step on to a red carpet wearing only a bit of concealer and no foundation, I’d have thought you were mad,” she shared. But that’s exactly what she did last week when she accepted The Telegraph’s inaugural Beauty Brand of the Year award.
The mother-of-five also says aging has been a liberating experience. Now, at 50, she finds herself caring far less about public opinion. While she used to scroll through comments about herself, she does not have the time, as she said, “I woke up at 50 and gave a s*** less.”
Victoria’s relaxed outlook shone through as she attended a glamorous dinner in Manhattan to celebrate the launch of her exclusive partywear collection with Mytheresa. Dressed in an elegant backless white midi dress, she looked radiant and confident, accessorizing with burgundy heels and a matching clutch.
Her husband, David Beckham, 49, and son, Romeo, 22, were by her side, showing their support at the star-studded event. Reflecting on her career, Victoria shared that she no longer finds fame appealing, saying, “I suppose it used to be fun to go out and be chased by paparazzi…and you would dress knowing you were going to get that. I don’t want that anymore.”
From her Spice Girls days to her rise as a global fashion icon, Victoria has evolved not just in her career but in her outlook on life. As she explained: “I’ve been doing this too long. I suppose I did when I was growing up but, nowadays, there’s just too much going on; too busy; too many kids to worry about.”
