Vince Vaughn Honored With Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Honors Family During Acceptance Speech
Vince Vaughn, the actor who has brought laughter to millions, received a well-deserved honor on August 12, as he was awarded the 2,786th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Surrounded by family, friends, and longtime collaborators, Vince took the stage on Hollywood Boulevard to reflect on his journey and express his gratitude.
At 54, Vince has built a career that spans decades, bringing his unique comedic style to both television and film. Speaking at the ceremony, he was joined by his producing partner Peter Billingsley and Bad Monkey co-creator Bill Lawrence, who praised his contributions to the entertainment industry.
For Vince, the day was all about family. With his parents, Sharon and Vernon Vaughn, his two older sisters, his aunt, and many friends present, the actor made sure to acknowledge those closest to him. His wife, Kyla, and their two children, Locklyn, 13, and Vernon, 11, were front and center in his speech.
Addressing his wife from the podium, Vince said, “My beautiful wife Kyla — so glad that you’re with me on this now. I’m so grateful for you and for these beautiful kids, and for all the laughter that we share together.”
He then turned to his children, saying, “And as much as all this means, Vernon and Locklyn, and these honors, you guys really do need to know that you guys are the most important thing in the world to me.”
In true Vince fashion, he couldn’t resist a joke, as he quipped, “You’re not as lucrative — you don’t give me access to the stuff that this kinda thing does, but with that all being said, you guys are the most important, and I love you both very much.”
“It’s great to have you guys with me,” he added.
Vince also took a moment to reflect on how his journey into comedy began. He shared that watching films like Animal House with his sisters inspired him to pursue a career in making people laugh.
Sharing how he “really wanted to be a part” of the “laughs I experienced in the theater,” he said, “[I felt like] I could do that, and maybe make people laugh and give families a good night to discuss stuff and have joy.”
He credited his parents for nurturing his love of storytelling and comedy, as he pointed out that they gave him “the gift of storytelling and watching movies and laughing and talking about them afterward.”
In closing his speech, Vince acknowledged the gravity of the honor, but with his trademark humor, he joked, “I should be very humbled to be included here today in such a tradition, but the truth is I’m feeling pretty empowered. It’s all going to my head. And I’m starting to feel like I got a full head of steam.”
With a nod to those who have supported him along the way, Vince added, “Thank you to the council for including me. To all the fans out there that have supported me through the years, all my representatives and friends and coworkers that I share this with. I’m very grateful to be included in this.”
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, represented by Ana Martinez, expressed pride in honoring Vince with the star. “From his work on television to film, Vince has made quite an impact on the entertainment world, and we are excited to celebrate his achievements with this dedication ceremony,” Ana said.
