Whoopi Goldberg Slams Meghan Markle for Her Deal or No Deal Remark
It appears that Whoopi Goldberg was not too happy with Meghan Markle’s latest podcast, where she made a shocking statement about her Deal or No Deal stint.
The Duchess of Sussex claimed she was only used for her physical appearance and this treatment made her feel like a bimbo on the show. The former Suits actress stated on her podcast that her 2-year stint with the show as one of the briefcase models made her feel objectified.
During The View yesterday, Whoopi accused Meghan’s comment could be insulting to other women who, like her, were only trying to earn a living.
Meghan had, at one point, expressed her gratitude for being on the show because it helped her with the bills. But that feeling of being grateful was overshadowed by her statement against the show and the showrunners.
And it is not just Whoopi who disagreed with Meghan biting the hand that fed her. This pattern appears to be constant to the Duchess as she previously released statements unfavorable to the Royal family after being welcomed to The Firm.
One of the other briefcase models of Deal or No Deal, Claudia Jordan, who was with the show far longer than Meghan, refuted her claims too. She stated that she and the other girls all had opportunities opening up for them thanks to the show. Claudia was clear that the girls were not chosen just for their looks.
The View host Whoopi stated that the objectification allegation may be coming from Meghan alone. It may just be how the actress was feeling but not the whole truth of what was happening to the other girls on the show.
As Whoopi continued to share her view about Meghan’s statement, she also mentioned the changes that performers have to accept and work with because they’re in showbiz.
The Sister Act star stated that as a performer, you have to become the character when you accept a gig. She gave the example of having to wear a bozo suit with a big nose for one of her acting stints, adding it’s a part of the job, but it doesn’t have to define her.
She was quick to add that even if Meghan accepted the job, she was well within her rights to walk away and leave the show if she wanted to.
By the end of the talk, Whoopi was clear about the point she was driving at: not making other women feel inadequate or questioning their participation because of how Meghan felt.
Whoopie did agree that Meghan was entitled to her feelings.
