Will Smith Is Embarrassed And Hurt By Chris Rock’s Netflix Special
Chris Rock recently had a Netflix special, and it was all about the notorious clash between him and Will Smith during the 94th Academy Awards. And apparently, the special caused Will Smith to be hurt and embarrassed.
The Chris Rock and Will Smith duo will go down in Academy Awards history for the wrong reasons. Recall that Will marched onstage and then, out of nowhere, slapped Chris across his surprised face after he made a joke about Will’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia condition.
Due to this incident, the 54-year-old Will received a 10-year ban from the ceremony, while Chris, who was then presenting on the show, went on to use this experience as source material for his stand-up show.
Chris decided to be quiet about the slapping incident and did not release any comments whatsoever until now.
Staged at the Hippodrome Theatre, Baltimore, ironically Jada’s birthplace, 58-year-old Chris debuted a series of cutting rebukes all aimed at the Smith couple. One is a comedic monologue inspired by Jada’s extramarital affair with August Alsina.
Will was reportedly deeply affected by Chris’ decision on the Netflix special and is determined for Chris to move forward and let go of what happened.
Despite claims to the contrary, a trustworthy source asserts that Will has not yet watched Selective Outrage and that the information about it was simply fed to him by people who have watched the show.
In the show, Chris accused Will, an Oscar winner, of also having “selective outrage,” and to add fuel to the fire, he rehashed his wife’s infidelity.
But a close source mentioned one truth—everything could have been avoided if Will had apologized to Chris. Until now, Chris has not received a private, personal, or one-on-one apology from Will. Yes, a public apology, but that technically means nothing because you can’t determine the sincerity of something so publicly made.
And Will also doesn’t appear too keen to address what happened, shrugging it off, it seems. He only addressed the controversy twice—once on his Instagram the day after the incident, and the second time in a video where he publicly apologized.
The same source reiterated that Chris’ Selective Outrage is in no way a form of retaliation but is the best outlet for the comedian to finally talk about it, get it all out of his system, and ultimately be done with it. Dealing with it in silence has not been the healthiest, and if Chris wants to do it this way, he should.
And Chris’s decision to rehash the Oscar scandal has been cathartic to him, as he is finally using his humor as a tool to get it out of his system. And Chris certainly didn’t hold back when discussing the “slap gate” scandal.
Many viewers, both on location and on-live, were shocked when Chris brought up Jada’s infidelity with her son Jaden’s close friend. Chris stated that Will had to misdirect his anger because his wife was messing around with their son’s friend.
And to make matters worse, Chris’ humiliating comeback aired precisely a week before this year’s Oscar Awards, which was held on March 12.
