Wrong Move: Duke And Duchess Of Sussex Starting A Media War In The US
A US photo agency is standing firm and has dismissed the demand made by Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to hand over the photos taken from what the previous royals claimed was a near-catastrophic car chase in New York this week. The couple said the frightening and traumatic chase lasted nearly two hours.
The picture agent claims that Harry is not a US royal and that they can’t just demand something like get photos and be done with it. Backgrid USA reportedly stated that Harry’s “English rules of the royal prerogative to demand that the citizenry hand over their property to the Crown were rejected by this country long ago.”
The agency confirmed receiving footage and pictures of the incident from four freelance photographers. It has been shared that these photographers took the images and video Tuesday night and that three were driving cars while one of the photographers was riding a bicycle.
What is becoming a trend in the story of Harry and Meghan is that there appear to be loopholes again, and the biggest one is how they called the incident “near catastrophic.” This claim was rejected because the car chase that allegedly happened through Manhattan’s Upper East Side wasn’t scary or life-threatening.
According to the letter sent by the Sussexes’ lawyers to Backgrid USA, aside from the demand to hand over the pictures, the couple is also pushing for the New York Police Department to investigate the incident.
Backgrid USA’s response to this was, “In America, as I’m sure you know, the property belongs to the owner of it. Third parties cannot just demand it be given to them. You should sit down with your client and advise them that his English rules of the royal prerogative to demand that the citizenry hand over their property to the Crown were rejected by this country long ago. “
The agency ended its statement with a strong, “We stand by our founding fathers.”
News was also released that Backgrid USA will be launching their investigation of what happened, given that they also do not condone illegal activity or harassment in any form. The agency made it clear that the photographers present last Tuesday night had no intention of causing harm or distress and that their only equipment was their cameras.
The spokesman for Harry and Meghan released this statement last Wednesday, “While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.” This was associated with the couple’s concern for the public, who might have been unintentionally inconvenienced by what happened.
Additionally, part of Tuesday’s incident was that Harry, Meghan, and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, had to transfer to a taxi while fleeing from the US media outlet. The cab driver has recently spoken out, saying that during the entire time, he admitted that the couple looked nervous but mentioned that the paparazzi cars were never aggressive with them and kept their distance.
The incident happened after the trio attended the Woman of Vision Awards.
