YG in Legal Hot Water Again – Arrested For DUI In Burbank
California rapper YG has found himself in legal trouble again, this time on suspicion of DUI. The 33-year-old rapper, born Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson, was arrested on Tuesday, Oct. 1, in California. According to reports, police found YG standing outside his car, which had allegedly been driven over a curb.
Per Music News, a spokesperson for Burbank Police said, “Upon contact, Mr. Jackson displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. The officers conducted a DUI investigation to which Mr. Jackson was subsequently arrested and transported to the Burbank PD Jail where he was booked for driving under the influence.”
The Burbank City Jail confirmed to PEOPLE that YG was booked for a misdemeanor DUI. YG’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, has addressed the situation, saying, “We will be contesting the allegations, and they are just that — merely allegations.”
In a message to The Times, Joe further said, “One thing is obvious. YG seems to have a bullseye on his back by certain members of law enforcement and we will be addressing that.”
This isn’t YG’s first run-in with the law. Back in 2020, he was arrested just days before his performance at the Grammy Awards on a robbery charge. Additionally, in 2018, he was involved in another robbery case where a man had his chain snatched at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Per Rolling Stone, he was accused of stealing a neck chain worth between $3,000 and $9,000.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that YG was with a group of about 12 people at the casino when the alleged victim, a fan, asked for a photo. After being blocked by YG’s entourage, the fan made a comment saying YG “wasn’t that big of a celebrity anyway.” This reportedly led to an altercation, during which YG allegedly took the fan’s chain. Security footage appeared to show the rapper walking away with a “shiny object” in his hand
Both cases were dismissed by 2022, with YG settling with the latter victim outside of court.
Despite his legal issues, YG remains active in the music scene. In August, he dropped the third installment of his popular Just Re’d Up mixtape series. The 19-track project features appearances from Saweetie, DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty, and more.
