Zendaya Takes Coachella 2023 Stage For Surprise First Live Performance After 8 Years
The Euphoria actress surprised Coachella attendees in the Mojave tent by performing alongside British musician Labrinth. This was Zendaya’s first live performance as a singer in eight years. The actress’s last show as a singer was in 2015 when she performed her own concert in Los Angeles.
The actress performed the songs “I’m Tired” and “All for Us,” both of which were featured in her award-winning HBO show.
For her performance, Zendaya wore a pink ruffled mini dress with a corset bodice. She also wore a white tank top underneath and completed the look with silver hoop earrings, a hoop, and over-the-knee black boots.
Fans loved her performance and were quick to take to social media to share their excitement and love for the actress.
Zendaya enjoyed the performance as well as appreciated the love she received from the crowd. She posted several stories on her Instagram handle and wrote, “I cannot express my gratitude enough for this magical night. Thank you to my brother @labrinth for inviting me and giving me the most beautiful safe space to be on a stage again. And to the crowd tonight…wow… my heart is so full, I can’t thank you enough for the love I received tonight, made all my nerves melt away, I’m so grateful.”
Later the same night, just before going to bed, at around 4 a.m. California time, Zendaya expressed gratitude to the attendees again. She claimed to have never heard screaming like that in her entire life and that she couldn’t hear anything or what she sounded like because the crowd was so loud.
Zendaya first released music in 2011, Shake It Up, as a part of the Disney Channel series soundtracks. In 2013, she released her first and only self-titled solo album, which included the song “Replay”, a song certified three-times platinum just earlier this month.
However, Zendaya decided to step away from singing so that she could focus on her acting career. And just last year, in her chat with Andrew Garfield, Zendaya talked about being unsure if she could ever be a pop star. Explaining, she said that being an actor offers a certain level of anonymity that she really likes.
However, her recent collaboration with Labrinth won an Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. Post-win, the actress thanked fans with the following tweet, “I stepped away from music quite a while ago, for a number of reasons, but I still really love it, so the kindness and support I’ve received the past few days just for a little tiny toe dip back into some music means the absolute world to me..thanks<3”
In his Coachella set, Labrinth was also joined by Sia and dancer Maddie Ziegler for the “Thunderclouds” performance. Referring to Sia, Labrinth said, “I fuckin love this girl. When I first came to L.A., I was depressed and fucked up … When someone picks you up and supports you as a friend, you gotta hold them close.”
Labyrinth was also joined by Billie Eillish during his set at the first weekend of Coachella. The duo performed their new collaboration, “Never Felt So Alone.”
