Bill Nye the Science Guy Has Found His Better Half

At the age of 66, Bill Nye has found the woman that he wants to bond with for the rest of his life. Liza Mundy, 61, is a journalist and shares Nye’s love for storytelling and education.

Liza Mundy was originally a journalist for the Washington Post, but then moved on to become a best-selling author of many books, including Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of World War Ⅱ. In this book, she happened to mention Bill Nye’s mother, Jacqueline Jenkins-Nye. When Nye was told about this mention, he was curious and sent Mundy an email.

After that one email, a relationship grew into the marriage they now have today.

The two had a quiet intimate wedding late last month in Enid A. Haupt Garden outside of the Smithsonian Castle in Washington DC. Liza Mundy wore a stunning sleeveless satin gown with a mermaid style at the bottom. Bill Nye kept to tradition with his classic bow tie and a black tuxedo. He also wore his father’s cufflinks and an orange boutonniere. 

The couple wrote their own vows, which were said to be both comedic and heartfelt. The ceremony was intimate and quiet, which just demonstrates that they wanted things to be more personal and private. Robert Picardo, who played The Doctor in Star Trek, was the celebrity officiant. 

During the reception, Mundy changed into some sparkly sneakers to get the party started. Mundy’s daughter, Anna, and Nye’s old friend, Brian, were some of the people giving lovely toasts to share their congratulations.

The newlyweds’ first dance was to Sam Cooke’s version of “What a Wonderful World,” a very romantic choice. 

Bill Nye had been married once before to Blair Tindall, who is both a musician and an author. The pair spontaneously got married in 2006, which was a surprise to many. The marriage was short-lived when they found out from the State of California that they were not actually legally married. After that notice, they decided to split ways.

Nye actually had to take out a restraining order against Tindall after an incident between the two where Tindall allegedly threw weed killer at Nye’s face. Tindall tried to have the restraining order lifted by claiming that she was overly stressed and not in the right mindset.

There has been quite some time between the two marriages, so we can only hope that the second time’s the charm.
