Billie Eilish and Alleged New Beau

The pop star seems to have a new boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford of The Neighbourhood, and fans aren’t too happy about it.

For starters, Rutherford was in a relationship with Devon Lee Carlson, which ended last summer. Fans of The Neighbourhood were devastated, as the couple were together for around six years. Not long after Jesse’s breakup, the band announced that they will be going on a hiatus. 

As far as Eilish goes, she was in a relationship with Matthew Tyler Vorce not too long ago. He is a 31-year-old actor, which had fans concerned about their age gap (Eilish is 20). In addition, he has a past with being racist and homophobic on Twitter. 

Jesse Rutherford doesn’t seem to have any past controversies or scandals, but fans aren’t fond of his relationship with Billie, partly due to the eleven year age difference. Eilish released the song Your Power about a relationship before both of these, one she got into when she was 16, with her counterpart being 22. She’s always been one to keep her relationships more on the down low, but in her documentary, she can be seen emotionally wrecked because of this relationship.

In Your Power, as well as multiple other songs in her latest album, she appears to be opening up about the grooming abuse she endured in this relationship, which was seemingly her first. Fans worry that she’s repeating her past, as she continues to get with men who are much older than her. Rutherford appears to be a step up from both of her exes, in terms of his personality, but many are unhappy with their relationship, in part because of both of their past relationships.

Fans have also pointed out that the two have known each other since Eilish was just 15, calling out the age difference and expressing that they are uncomfortable with it. Some argue that she’s a grown adult, but most agree that a 20-year-old has no business being with someone eleven years older than her. Regardless, it’s understandable that the singer has not been super public with her relationships. Fans of The Neighbourhood saw Jesse and his ex as a power couple, and Billie Eilish fans have worried for her emotional safety with her past relationships. 

The new relationship has not officially been confirmed by either of the musicians, but it might as well be. They were spotted holding hands at what looks like a haunted house, as well as going to dinner together. We can only hope that their relationship turns out to be a healthy and beneficial one, but either way, it will definitely inspire some new music from the alternative songwriters.
