Details Emerge Amidst Reese Witherspoon’s Announcement of Divorce From Husband, Jim Toth
Reese Witherspoon’s recent announcement of her split from Jim Toth had everyone shocked that their fairy tale didn’t end up with a happily ever after.
And now, a new source revealed additional insights into the factors that led to the couple’s decision to call it quits and go their separate ways. The source shared with People that the decision was not easy, and the 47-year-old actress had a tough time accepting the reality that she and her former spouse, 52-year-old Jim, had become two very different people.
A source close to the couple revealed, “Reese is obviously disappointed and upset. She never saw herself getting another divorce.” The source further shared, “They are two very different people though. Reese is headstrong and focused. Although very hard-working, Jim is more laidback.”
Additionally, the ex-couple had been spending less and less time together, especially when Reese is working or busy with a project.
After a decade of marriage, Reese and Jim discovered the sad reality that they had fewer things in common now. Reese is described as really focused and busy while Jim is more relaxed.
And Reese definitely was busy since last year, because the Legally Blonde actress had to dedicate a lot of time in Nashville while producing the music competition show, My Kind of Country, for Apple TV music.
The mother of three also has Hello Sunshine, her production company that produced Daisy Jones & the Six for Amazon. Reese was also busy filming The Morning Show’s Season Three where she shares the screen with “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston.
On the other hand, Jim also had his projects. He has maintained his seat as one of the board of directors at a tech company called Flowcode. However, his decision to quit the talent agency CAA to join the now-flop streaming platform Quibi certainly ruffled some feathers and might have played a part in the divorce.
A source shared with Radar, “At the time Reese asked Jim if it was worth the risk, but he said he was up for the challenge and felt confident he’d bring home millions.”
Based on Reese’s divorce announcement released a few weeks ago, the ex-couple decided that much consideration and care went into their decision to separate. They also noted that the two tried their best to work on their marital and personal issues before arriving at the final resolution of getting a divorce.
The decision was gradual, and it took Reese and Jim a long time to reach that stage.
Another source shared with PageSix that the imminent divorce was handled quietly and kept secret in Hollywood for several months because Reese and Jim were trying to work it out again.
Reese and Jim tied the knot last March 2011 and welcomed a son, Tennessee, now 10. Reese has two other children, 23-year-old Ava and 19-year-old Deacon, with her first husband, Ryan Phillippe.
The Big Littles Lies actress shared the announcement via her Instagram, and despite people wanting to add more drama to what the couple is going through, an insider insists that there is no mess and unwanted drama.
The focus of Reese and Jim is Tennessee, and they have agreed to co-parent amicably and will always put the welfare of their son first — as was noted in the couple’s joint statement, “Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
