Shakira’s Media Request: Privacy For Her Sons Milan And Sasha After A Challenging Year Following Her Breakup With Gerard Piqué
Shakira and her family are starting a new life away from Spain following the end of her relationship with long-time partner Gerard Piqué.
Now, the singer has spoken out and made a request to the media and the people around her and her family, especially her children.
The 46-year-old Colombian singer revealed the intense scrutiny and interest she and her children had been subjected to. If it were just her, she’d handle it and let nature take its course, but Shakira is requesting that her sons be given the opportunity to live a happy and healthy life away from all the attention and judgment.
Shakira has two sons with her ex-partner and football player Gerard, Milan, and Sasha. After their much-publicized relationship ended, the unforgiving attention was something that the singer had to deal with.
And if the separation is not stressful and time-consuming enough, Shakira is also faced with tax fraud charges after a Spanish judge approved them for trial last year. Shakira has continued to deny that she did anything wrong to date.
Last Monday, Shakira posted a lengthy post in Spanish on her Instagram, addressing it to media outlets, journalists, and her friends. She acknowledged that her life as a public figure had undergone so many changes, and she accepted that part of being a public figure meant that people would always be curious about her and her family.
Then Shakira proceeded to share that her sons, Milan and Sasha, had a very difficult year, each coping as best as they could with everything. Unfortunately, the constant siege from the paparazzi and other media outlets, specifically in Barcelona, was not helping the boys.
And given that her family was attempting to start anew, Shakira strongly requested that the media respect their privacy.
She asked the media to refrain from following her boys, aged 10 and 8, when they were going to and leaving school. She said that the media should not wait for them when they get home or intrude on their space when they are engaged in extracurricular activities.
Shakira requested the media outlet to treat her sons “in the most human way possible”. She asked them to let them live their lives and have their own space without the constant cameras and coverage they had been subjected to.
The hitmaker also emphasized that she did not make her request as an artist but as a mother who only wanted to protect her child and prioritize the emotional and psychological well-being of the children. Shakira emphasized that all children deserve to have a healthy and happy life.
Shakira is finally leaving the Spanish city, and reports have surfaced that she and her family will start a new life in Miami. Gerard’s father demanding she and her parents leave the family home in Esplugues de Llobregat, where Shakira and her family stayed after her 12-year marriage ended, influenced her decision.
