Bruno Mars Shocks Fans With Racy New Song: “Not The Bruno I Know”
Bruno Mars has taken a bold new turn with his latest single, Fat Juicy and Wet, featuring rapper Sexyy Red. The track, which dropped on Friday along with a provocative music video, has fans buzzing — but not necessarily in a good way.
While some listeners are excited about Bruno’s edgy approach, many longtime fans are struggling to embrace this unexpected direction. Packed with explicit lyrics and heavy sexual themes, the song has drawn criticism for being more suited to a strip club than a radio hit. One unimpressed fan quipped, “Debbie does Dallas had the same pitch,” while another called it more like “porn” than art.
The backlash didn’t stop there. “This is NOT the Bruno I know,” wrote one follower, while another added, “Bruno, I love you and you have an almost perfect discography, but this is genuinely the worst song I’ve ever listened to in my life.”
The accompanying music video isn’t any tamer. With Sexyy Red twerking on Bruno and him spanking her, the visuals are as racy as the lyrics. A cheeky moment shows Bruno mopping the floor next to a sign that reads “Slippery When Wet.” Fans might also have been surprised to see Lady Gaga and BLACKPINK’s Rosé make cameo appearances in the steamy clip.
Despite the controversy, Bruno seems to be embracing the shock factor. Promoting the song on Instagram, he called it a “strip club anthem” and gave a shoutout to Lady eGaga and Rosé for their appearances. “Fat Juicy and Wet… Out Now!” he wrote, clearly unbothered by the mixed reviews.
Some fans, however, are loving the new energy. “Damn, you are so hot, Bruno,” one admirer gushed. Another praised his willingness to experiment with different sounds and styles.
This latest release marks a shift for the Treasure hitmaker, who has built a reputation on smooth, retro-inspired pop and R&B. Now 39, Bruno appears eager to shake things up. His collaboration with 26-year-old rising rapper Sexyy Red has sparked curiosity, but also left many wondering if he’s trying a little too hard to stay relevant in today’s music scene.
Bruno had previously teased the project earlier this week by posting a picture of himself with Sexyy Red on Instagram. “Found her!” he wrote, hinting at the collaboration before dropping a snippet of the song.
Lady Gaga’s involvement in the video follows her previous work with Bruno on Die With a Smile, a chart-topping hit released last August. At the time, Bruno spoke highly of working with her, calling her an “icon” who made the track “magical.”
Lady Gaga revealed that the Finesse singer had approached her for the collaboration while she was finishing her album in Malibu. “We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song,” she recalled.
