Dolly Parton Revealed She Has Song In Time Capsule To Be Unearthed in 2045 When She is 99
Dolly Parton has a piece of art that will not be shared until the next 23 years.
The iconic singer revealed on The Kelly Clarkson Show that she wrote and recorded a song that is only to be enjoyed by future generations. According to her, the song is now buried in a time capsule underneath her theme park, Dollywood, in Tennessee. It is to remain there until 2045.
Dolly explained that she agreed to the idea of burying an unreleased song and waiting 30 years to open it. Initially, she said she found the idea of writing a new song only to have it buried “crazy.” However, she later agreed to it and had it done in 2015.
As she shared on the show, she parked the recording of the song together with some items indicative of the period, including a CD player and cassette player, into a time capsule. She then buried it amidst construction work at Dollywood.
By the time the capsule is “ripe” for opening, Dolly would be 99 years old. While her fans would be excited by the idea of an unreleased song by their idol, she shared that she did feel odd writing a song that was not going to be heard for decades.
Seven years into the stunt, the 76-year-old shared that she has some regret over subjecting to the idea. Saying the song is “a really good song,” she shared that she often battles the urge to go dig it up.
“I have written a song that nobody’s going to hear until I’m 99-years-old. And I might be there and I might not be,” the Jolene singer stated.
Most of Dolly’s regret is premised on the fear that the content of the song will disintegrate within the three years it spends under the ground.
As for the person who brought up the plan, Dolly does not remember. But she said the idea was built on the expectation that she would be gone by then.
When the song is released, it might be another of Dolly’s songs to reach number one on the Billboard country music charts. So far, she has had 25 singles to get to that spot, a record she, alongside Reba McEntire, broke as far as female artists are concerned.
The iconic singer-songwriter’s albums have also seen commercial success with 44 Top 10 country albums.
