Kanye West Opens a Private Christian Grade School
First he made a name for himself with his music, then became a fashion entrepreneur with his clothing brand Yeezy, and now he’s starting a more… unconventional business venture, opening a childrens’ school, Donda Academy, named after his late mother who was a professor.
It seems that he’s making many changes. For one, his legal name is now simply Ye, and not Kanye. “I believe ‘ye’ is the most common word used in the Bible, he said, it means you. So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.” Well, Ye’s Christian private school now has a website and is accepting admissions for the 2023-2024 school year.
For a brief rundown on the curriculum at the Donda Academy, supposedly there will be a student to teacher ratio of ten to one, with less than twelve students per class. Core classes like English, science, and math will be taught, as well as electives including film and parkour.
He certainly has time to run a school now, which may be how the idea came to fruition. He terminated his contract with GAP recently, saying that terms of the contract were violated. In now-deleted Instagram posts, Ye went on rants about multiple topics including co-parenting, GAP, and his children’s school.
The Academy is meant for students K-12, and tuition is about $13,000 yearly, but financial aid and scholarship opportunities may be available. It’s rumored that families will have to sign a non-disclosure agreement upon enrollment. Ye says he has plans to eventually open Donda Academy campuses across the county.
Each campus would have its own housing, shopping, and farms. As for the shopping part, the only products available will be designed by the Yeezy team. The school’s website lists Brianne Campbell as the head of the school, despite the fact that she does not seem to have any previous experience as a formal educator. She is currently finishing her master’s degree at Pepperdine University and should be finished by next fall.
The school is still searching for educators, though, mere weeks before the next school year. Donda Academy has also recently applied for accreditation, which means that colleges will recognize and accept students’ diplomas as legitimate. While he surely has connections who can help him get the ball rolling, Ye seems to be taking this school very seriously.
Ye West is a man of mystery, that’s for sure. This ambitious decision to open up a school is perhaps the most mysterious thing he’s done as of late. Whether you love or hate him, one thing anyone can agree on is that once Ye’s mind is made up, consider it done.
