Katy Perry Unveils New Album, Announces Release Date And First Single

Katy Perry is officially back! On July 10, the 39-year-old singer announced her much-anticipated sixth studio album, 143. This title is a nostalgic nod to the pager code for “I love you”. 

Alongside the announcement, she shared the album cover and revealed the release date – September 20.

“I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message,” Katy explained in a statement. 

This new project is shaping up to be a “sexy, fearless return to form” for the Dark Horse singer, as described in a press release shared with PEOPLE.

Katy has been dropping hints about her new music for months. During her PLAY Las Vegas Residency in August 2023, she joked about fans embracing her “KP6 era.” 

“If you couldn’t love me in my Witness and Smile eras, then you can’t love me in my KP6 era,” she told the audience.

Her new album’s first single, Woman’s World, will kick things off on July 11. Described as a “powerful celebration of womanhood in all its forms,” Katy has been teasing snippets and building anticipation on Instagram since June 17. On July 4, she promoted the single with a patriotic post, wearing a bedazzled, star-shaped swimsuit. “BB UR A FIREWORK 🎆and speaking of work, WOMAN’S WORLD IS GOING TO WORK IN ONE WEEK HAPPY 4TH 🇺🇸,” she captioned the photo.

The music video for Woman’s World will drop on July 12, adding more excitement for fans. 

Katy’s return to the music scene is also marked by her upcoming performance at Rock in Rio in Brazil on September 20, her first at the festival since 2015.

This comeback follows Katy’s departure from the American Idol judging panel after seven seasons, which she announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in February. “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol,” she said, also teasing her album then.

Katy’s last album, Smile, was released in 2020, and her eagerness to drop new music again is palpable. Get ready for a thrilling new era with Katy and her album 143 – it’s set to be an unforgettable year in pop music, just as she promised!
