Lizzo Has a Golden Performance at the 2022 BET Awards
The “Truth Hurts” singer arrived at the red carpet with a feathery navy blue dress that included a stunning deep v plunge and thigh-high slit.
Lizzo was the opening act for the BET Awards, and she made sure to make a memorable performance. Covered head to toe in a golden disco ball pantsuit, she started the night off with a performance of “About Damn Time” with belting vocals and energetic dancers.
Lizzo also performed with her famous instrument of choice: the flute. After an amazing solo and exciting choreography, she received a standing ovation. Lizzo always knows how to put on a show, so the applause was well-deserved.
The singer’s first BET performance took place in 2019, where she broke out as a star and performed “Truth Hurts” in all white with a spectacularly energetic performance. In 2020, she made BET awards history after becoming the first artist ever nominated for both best female R&B/pop artist and best female hip-hop artist in the same year. She even beat Beyonce out for best female R&B/pop artist that year.
Jack Harlow followed Lizzo’s performance with his own that featured Lil Wayne as a surprise guest. Harlow also made a scene on the red carpet with an outfit that had a twist. He wore a Lil Nas X t-shirt in a silent way to support his friend and fellow collaborator’s protest against the BET awards.
Lil Nas X has publicly made comments against the fact that he received zero nominations this year from the BET, even though he had an entire critically-acclaimed album eligible to be awarded on. The album in question has dominated award ceremonies this year, with five Grammy and five Billboard Music Award nominations. Lil Nas X took to Twitter, stating that his lack of nominations from this award ceremony has to do with” the bigger problem of homophobia in the Black community.”
On social media, the account for the official BET awards has said that they had no control over nominations since the voting was fan-based.
