Rihanna To Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show!
Rihanna’s fans are celebrating and roaring with happiness after learning she will be headlining the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show.
The 34-year-old Grammy winner announced the news last Sunday by sharing an uploaded image of her tattooed arm while holding a football. The post garnered more than 700,000 likes in the first twenty minutes after it was uploaded.
The NFL confirmed by tweeting the same snap accompanied by the message “Let’s GO #SBLVII.”
And it is not only fans who are ecstatic with the news. Celebrities like Landon Romano, Beb Rexha, and Maren Morris all expressed their excitement about Rihanna’s halftime show with Instagram comments like, “Screaming!” “OH My God, Yes!” and “This is about to be a movie.”
Halle Bailey, The Little Mermaid’s Ariel, also posted, “Rihanna for halftime? Yasss!” accompanied by crying and heart emojis. Halle’s sister, Chloe Bailey, also harmonized with her own say about the turn of events, but overall, she was happy with the news.
Meanwhile, model Lori Harvey reposted the original image that Rihanna uploaded but her caption was about having to get Super Bowl tickets.
Not only will this be a halftime show to remember, but it will also be one of the biggest marketing for Rihanna’s makeup brand, Fendi.
A fan with the handle name Gee uploaded a 2022 throwback photo of Rihanna—then heavily pregnant with her partner A$AP Rocky—attending the Super Bowl. Now it’s Rihanna’s turn to take center stage. The fan looks at it as going full circle, which is fantastic.
The celebration of Rihanna’s upcoming halftime show comes after the Diamonds singer once refused the opportunity to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl. The new mother declined the invite due to how Colin Kaepernick was treated.
The ex-San Francisco 49er quarterback then refused to stand when the US National anthem was being played at the onset of the games. This is his way of showing protest against racial inequality and police brutality rampant during that time. After he was released and became a free agent, no teams offered to sign him up.
This led him to sue the NFL in November 2017, alleging collusion on the part of the football team owners in holding him back from being drafted. Two years later, the lawsuit was withdrawn after he and the NFL agreed to a confidential settlement, but until now, he is still unsigned by any team.
During the peak of this issue, Rihanna explained her side of the story when Vogue interviewed her. She stated, “I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There are things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”
But since she already announced her participation, it appears that Rihanna is finally willing to be of service to them. And what a way to return to center stage after giving birth to her and Rocky’s son in May 2022.
