Shaboozey Battles For Songwriting Rights Amid Label Dispute While Romance With Emily Ratajkowski Heats Up
Shaboozey, the rising star behind the hit country single A Bar Song (Tipsy), is locked in a heated legal battle with his former label, Kreshendo Entertainment, over his songwriting rights. The 29-year-old singer-songwriter, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, is fighting to reclaim control over his music, a fight that has taken center stage even as his romance with supermodel Emily Ratajkowski blossoms.
According to reports from TMZ, Shaboozey recently sued Kreshendo Entertainment, accusing the label of engaging in shady practices to prevent him from gaining control over his publishing rights.
Despite his recent success, Shaboozey claims he’s unable to fully enjoy the fruits of his labor due to Kreshendo’s refusal to release his rights.
Shaboozey’s contract with Kreshendo ended in 2019, which should have allowed him to negotiate new deals. However, as his single began to climb the charts, a dispute over profits arose with Kreshendo. The singer sought to secure his publishing rights with Warner-Tamerlane, but the situation quickly escalated into a legal quagmire.
The artist’s lawyer, Todd Bonder, revealed to Billboard that Warner-Tamerlane has refused to disclose the total amount of the unrecouped balance of prior advances made to Shaboozey. Bonder suspects that Kreshendo is behind this secrecy, pressuring Warner to keep Shaboozey tied to his old contract. “Warner’s conduct violates the administration agreement signed between the parties,” Todd stated.
In his lawsuit, Shaboozey accused Kreshendo of not only interfering with his publishing rights but also releasing songs without his consent, even after their contract ended in 2019. This battle over creative control has put a damper on what should be a high point in the artist’s career.
Meanwhile, Shaboozey’s love life is making headlines of its own. The singer was recently spotted leaving Emily Ratajkowski’s New York City apartment in the same clothes he wore on their movie date the night before. The couple has been seen together frequently, including at the star-studded premiere of Blink Twice at the Metrograph theater.
Emily, who was previously married to Uncut Gems producer Sebastian Bear-McClard and shares a 3-year-old son with him, has been romantically linked to several high-profile names, including Brad Pitt, Harry Styles, and Pete Davidson. However, her budding relationship with Shaboozey seems to be the latest chapter in her love life.
The model, known for her candidness, recently told PopSugar that she plans to be “more private” in 2024, focusing on internal work and spending less time on social media. This introspective shift comes after a whirlwind year of public appearances and viral moments.
