Taylor Swift Leads 2022 AMAs Amidst The Ticketmaster Sales Fiasco
The American Music Awards, or AMA 2022, was in for a treat after Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance. The singer also accepted an impressive six milestone awards during the event that was held in LA last Sunday. All this amidst the debacle with Ticketmaster and tour tickets.
Last week, Taylor revealed that she was unhappy with how Ticketmaster handled the sales of her The Eras Tour. Recall that the website of the sales and distribution company experienced a lot of technical glitches during the sale, causing thousands and thousands of fans to be frustrated, disappointed, and angered by the overall experience.
Last November 1, Taylor officially announced her 27-date Eras tour across the US in 20 cities from March to August 2023. This caused a massive frenzy among her fans.
But Ticketmaster was unable to handle it as expected, and according to them, the historically unprecedented demand from the fans caused their site to crash repeatedly. The fans also questioned the soaring prices, accusing Ticketmaster of monopolizing the tickets.
Ticketmaster had assured Taylor they would be able to manage the high demand for her tickets, much to her disappointment. As a result, Ticketmaster canceled the scheduled public music tour tickets, explaining that there were insufficient tickets for the events.
The Shake It Off singer responded by posting on her Instagram stories emphasizing how protective she is when it comes to her fans. She shared, without mentioning Ticketmaster, how she thought having them onboard could help improve her fans’ overall experience securing her tickets.
She further mentioned that she wouldn’t be making excuses for what happened but is more focused on finding a solution to resolve and improve the situation for everybody. Taylor also expressed how amazed she was that 2.4 million people bought her tickets.
Still, the horrible experience the fans had to endure to secure her tickets was not something to be happy about.
Jonathan Skrmetti, Tennessee’s attorney general, will reportedly be launching an investigation into what happened.
This prompted Ticketmaster to issue a lengthy statement that blamed bots and fans with no invite codes. They stated that these factors caused the extreme traffic of almost 3.5 billion users, which was four times the regular traffic their site gets.
Regardless of what happened, it proved that Taylor Swift is an unstoppable force that continuously breaks records and norms.
Taylor’s night at the AMAs was indeed a night to remember, given that she won all the six categories that she was voted in. The 32-year-old successful musician was emotional as she took in her wins and the outstanding support she received from her fans. Taylor’s wins included the much coveted Artist of the Year, and this year’s awarding cemented Taylor as one of the most decorated musicians in the history of AMA with 40 wins.
Taylor brought home the favorite female pop artist, favorite pop album, favorite music video, favorite female country artist, and favorite country album awards.
