Taylor Swift Responds to Dave Grohl’s Insinuation That She Doesn’t Play Live
Taylor Swift has never been one to take things lying down.
And Dave Grohl should’ve known that by now.
The 55-year-old frontman told the audience at his Foo Fighters concert in London that he called their show the “Errors Tour,” a play on Swift’s “Eras Tour.”
He explained it’s because they “had more than a few eras, and more than a few f—ing errors as well. Just a couple.” Grohl prefaced it by mentioning the ‘Cruel Summer’ singer’s sold-out tour, which was playing in London, UK, over the same weekend.
“You don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift,” he added. Then, he dragged her through the mud, saying, “That’s because we actually play live. What?! Just saying. You guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music, right? You came to the right f—ing place.”
The implication that Swift didn’t sing her songs live didn’t sit well with Swifties.
“Oh Tayvoodoo is coming for him and he deserves it,” one person wrote on X. “Can’t handle that a woman is more talented and successful.”
“I love Foo Fighters but that was very bad out of Dave Grohl to say that and so unnecessary?” another penned on the social media site. “I’ve seen both them are Taylor live and both do equally as good of a live show in their own genres. Completely out of character for him to act like this, disappointing to see.”
“Wow Grohl so washed he has to use Taylor’s name for free pr? Embarrassing thought he was better than that what a shame,” another user took a jab.
“It’s always so funny when other musicians slate Taylor Swift when a literal Beatle said she was the most influential artist of contemporary times,” a fourth posted.
Swift, 34, responded in her own way. The ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ singer seemingly clapped back at Wembley Stadium on Sunday night.
“What you just did is an unforgettable moment in not just my life, but every single one of our crew,” she said. “My band, who’s gonna be playing live for you for 3 1/2 hours tonight, they deserve this so much. And so does every one of my fellow performers. And you just gave that to us so generously, we will never forget it.”
Here’s what’s surprising: Grohl has been a longtime supporter of the ‘Bad Blood’ singer, going so far as to dedicate a song to her. “To my opening band, Taylor Swift. Taylor and the Swifts.”
One social media user referenced this on X: “While Taylor Swift was on stage at Wembley last night, Dave Grohl was a few miles away at a much smaller venue firing unprovoked shots. He stopped twice to spew misogynistic lies and encourage his fans to boo her. Funny how he respected Taylor until her success surpassed his own.”
Some jumped to the ‘Marigold’ singer’s defense. “It’s finally happening. More artists need to speak up. NO MORE BACKING TRACKS. Please just play live it sounds way better,” one person wrote on X.
Another X user said Grohl had good reason to change his tune. His teenage daughter, Violet, was relentlessly harassed, trolled, and even sent death threats by droves of Swifties. Her fault? She criticized the singer for her private jet use, tweeting (and deleting), “Why can’t taylor swift just drive like everyone else.”
BTW, Swift didn’t come to her rescue, even when things got intense.
