The 2023 Grammy Awards Nominations are in! Beyonce Ties Jay-Z’s Record With 88 Nominations
Beyonce is leading the 65th Grammy Awards nomination this year with nine nominations. The cultural icon now acquired has a total of 88 Grammy nominations. Surprisingly, she is tied with the same number of nominations as her husband, Jay-Z.
The 52-year-old business mogul previously held the most number of records at 83 but has five new nominations, so he and his 40-year-old A-lister wife are now tied.
Following Queen Bey are British favorites Adele and Harry Styles. Adele has seven nominations, and Harry Styles has six. The Recording Academy announced the nominees and their respective nominations last Tuesday morning from Los Angeles. The announcement was live-streamed.
Bagging the second number of nominations is Kendrick Lamar, who was nominated for eight categories. Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile also has seven, like Adele.
The competition for the Top Honor Album of the Year is going to be one of the toughest deliberations, given the nominees are Adele for 30, Beyonce for Renaissance, Brandi Carlile for In These Silent Days, Harry Styles for Harry’s House, and Kendrick for Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.
These artists are also facing off with ABBA’s Voyage, Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres, Lizzo’s Special, and Mary J. Blige’s Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe).
The Record of the Year is also a much-coveted prize that goes to a single or a single track from an album. The forerunners for the win are Adele for Easy on Me, Beyonce for Break My Soul, Harry Styles for As It Was, and Kendrick Lamar for The Heart Part 5.
And they are pitted against ABBA’s Don’t Shut Me Down, Brandi Carlile feat Lucius’ You and Me on the Rock, Doja Cat’s Woman, Lizzo’s About Damn Time, Mary J. Blige’s Good Morning Gorgeous, and Steve Lacy’s Bad Habit.
For the Song of the Year Category, Adele, Beyonce, Harry Styles, and Kendrick Lamar are again competing against each other, but this time also with Bonnie Raitt’s Just Like That, DJ Khaled feat Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend & Friday’s God Did, Lizzo’s About Damn Time, Gayle’s ABCDEFU, Steve Lacy’s Bad Habit and Taylor Swift’s All Too Well.
Aside from the crowd’s favorite artists, other forerunners on the upcoming awards night are Taylor Swift, who is expected to dominate in the country categories, and Bad Bunny for being unquestionably the world’s most extensive touring and streaming artist.
There are more women nominees this year, and more than half are people of color. The 65th musical celebration and awarding have more commendations and awards to give, given that they added five more categories like the Songwriter of the Year and Special Song for Social Change.
One of the artists not nominated this year was Bruno Mars because, together with Anderson Paak, they withdrew their album, Silk Sonic, from the Grammy Awards.
Silk Sonic brought home four awards at the last ceremony, including the Record of the Year.
The much-awaited Grammy Awards night is set for February 5, 2023, to be held at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
