Tia Mowry Relives The Moment Beyoncé Sang Her Song On Stage

Tia Mowry has had plenty of memorable moments in her career, but nothing prepared her for the night Beyoncé herself acknowledged her in front of thousands of fans.
During the Renaissance Tour stop at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on September 4, 2023, Beyoncé, 43, spotted Tia in the crowd and made a subtle yet unforgettable nod to the Sister, Sister star. In the middle of singing her ballad 1+1, Bey unexpectedly wove in a line from Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, a song Tia and her twin sister, Tamera, recorded in 1992 as part of their girl group, Voices.
Tia, 46, later admitted she didn’t even realize what had happened at first. “What’s so funny, I was off to the side of the stage, so … somebody behind me had to say, ‘Oh my gosh, this just happened,’ and I was like, ‘What?’” she recalled. It wasn’t until she saw the moment online later that she truly understood how special it was.
“I was so shocked when that happened,” she told PEOPLE at the Overjoyed launch event in Los Angeles on February 20. “It was definitely a moment, and I’m grateful and overjoyed for that moment, and she’s wonderful. I’ve met her several times.”
The day after the concert, Tia took to Instagram to share her excitement, writing, “The highlight of the night was when she saw me in the crowd, and she gave me a smile and a hello, and then started singing ‘yeah, yeah, yeah’ from when @tameramowrytwo and I were in the singing group, Voices!” she wrote in the caption. “I was so touched by her gesture, and I still can’t believe that it truly happened! She’s a true icon, who continuously inspires me with her talent, dedication, humility, and beautiful spirit 💗.”
This wasn’t the first time Tia had crossed paths with Beyoncé. The two first met in the ’90s when Destiny’s Child worked on a project with Tia’s younger brother, Tahj Mowry, who starred in Disney Channel’s Smart Guy. Reflecting on that early meeting, Tia shared a throwback photo of her and Tamera posing with the Destiny’s Child members as teens. “From the beginning, Beyoncé’s undeniable talent is only rivaled by her incredible kindness and generosity,” she wrote.
Months after the concert, Tia continued to show her love for Queen Bey by attending the Los Angeles premiere of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, where she celebrated the singer’s artistry alongside Gabrielle Union, Coco Jones, and Simone Joy Jones.
