Anne Hathaway Admits to Being Pickier About Roles She Plays Because of Her Children
From a princess to an assistant to a spoiled socialite, Anne Hathaway’s choice of characters has been exciting, to say the least. There’s no doubt that her acting portfolio is one of the most diverse in Hollywood.
But the renowned Hollywood actress revealed that she has become pickier about the projects she accepts after having children. Her sons, Jonathan, aged six, and Jack, aged two have changed her life and influenced her acting career – for the better.
The 39-year-old Princess Diaries star, who has been married to Adam Shulman, made the statement during a press conference for her upcoming movie Armageddon Time. Her children have made her more thoughtful of the roles to accept and pursue.
The movie hits the theaters in November this year.
During an interview with Sirius XM, Anne mentioned that she needs to sort her priorities because the two kids are and will always be at the top of her list. If it means turning down a role that requires her to stay away from them for a long time, then so be it.
She considers her kids the most precious people in her world, and her time with them tops everything. Anne also admitted that when she accepts a project, it puts more pressure on her to make everything work out fine.
According to Anne, it has always been part of her work ethic to take every project seriously. She commits 100% to the story, character, and audience.
She further explained that many people work hard for money. When they’re watching her movie, taking time off, and spending it on a film – she needs to make sure that it is worth her audience’s time.
Anne, who played Fantine in Les Misérables, also stated that part of her not saying yes to every project is because she wants to be the best actress around. She believes that her growth never stops and that she must do as many different genres of movies as possible to achieve and sustain that goal.
She also admitted that one of the critical factors affecting her decision-making would be the directors working with her and vice versa. Anne believes that any movie director can help her with her continuous improvement because directors can bring out the best (and the worst) in an actor.
Talking of James Gray, the director of her new movie, she said she was excited about the role she is playing. It is not just age appropriate, but James as a director has met all of her prerequisites. Anne knew that by the end of filming, she would have emerged again as a better artist.
At the same time, Anne mentioned she would like her children to watch the movies she was part of before they were born. The film she is most excited about sharing with the kids is The Devils Wear Prada, she added.
