Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Is Expected To Hit $175M Next Month
Everyone is preparing for the much-anticipated Black Panther sequel to be a massive success. It is predicted to fetch an impressive but not impossible $175 million when it hits the theaters next November 11.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to follow the steps of its predecessor Black Panther, which was released in February 2018. It debuted with $202 million in the U.S. alone, and it earned a total of $1.34 billion at the worldwide box office.
Ryan Coogler directed the first Black Panther movie, and the Marvel adaptation earned its rank among the highest-grossing films in the US. In 2018, Black Panther was the first movie released after Avatar, considered the number-one-grossing movie in film history. It led and held its #1 rank for five weeks straight.
In the original movie, the late Chadwick Boseman brought Black Panther to life. Unfortunately, the actor succumbed to colon cancer in 2020. He was joined by a star-studded cast that included Oscar winner Lupita Nyong-o, Michael B. Jordan, and Angela Bassett.
After Chadwick’s death, many of the cast numbers of the first film were interested in returning to their old characters. This was possible, but the real challenge was that with Chadwick gone, it would be hard to develop an entirely different storyline without him.
The casting of another actor to replace Chadwick was never an option since Black Panther is and always will be Chadwick Boseman.
After much deliberation, the makers confirmed that a sequel would be made without Chadwick’s character being recast. And when the filming began in June 2021, everyone, especially the fans, couldn’t contain their excitement about what the plot would be this time. The crew had their final take this March.
And if the prospect of a Black Panther 2 movie were not enough to thrill viewers, the trailer of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever got everyone more excited. The new film is set after Black Panther, that is, after King T’Challa’s demise. The preview of the face and character of the new hero is enough of a teaser.
The two-minute clip is action-loaded, and Marvel, indeed, is set on increasing the curiosity and anticipation of the viewers. It begins by showing familiar faces from the first movie, headed by Angela Bassett’s character, Queen Ramonda, and Shuri holding her brother’s helmet.
It shows that someone will take over after the king’s death and become the new leader and hero. The movie advert also showcases the debut of Ironheart in all her full steel armor, flying like the well-loved Ironman.
And then, at the end of the clip, a woman is shown wearing a suit so similar to T’Challa’s that many assumed that Shuri, his techie sister, brought to life by actress Letitia Wright is the new hero. But again, who knows? Trailers are unpredictable, so anything is possible.
