“Bridgerton” Announces Luke Thompson As The Lead For Season 4
Exciting news for Bridgerton fans! Netflix has announced that Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, will be the new lead for the upcoming fourth season of the popular series. The announcement was made on Tuesday, July 23, through an Instagram video showcasing some of Benedict’s memorable moments on the show.
The video was captioned, “Welcome to the marriage mart Mr. Bridgerton. Benedict’s story is coming next season,” and featured Luke appearing as himself. He is seen being fitted for a suit and informed that it is for “the masquerade ball.”
Realizing the significance, Luke enthusiastically responds, “In that case, come on in!”
Bridgerton has captivated audiences since its debut in 2020. The first season followed Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (played by Regé-Jean Page) on their unexpected, passion-filled journey to love. Season 2, released in 2022, highlighted Daphne’s brother Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) and his slow-burn romance with Kate Sharma (played by Simone Ashley). More recently, viewers saw Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) find love with his childhood friend Penelope Featherington (played by Nicola Coughlan).
With speculation about the upcoming fourth season, Luke had previously shared his thoughts on the possibility of his character, Benedict, taking center stage. During an appearance on The View in June, he admitted he was unsure about the show’s future direction, saying, “I don’t know.”
He added, “I know that it’s so lovely [and] that one of the best things about a TV job is you get to really explore a character long-form like that and fill him in slowly. So as long as I keep getting to do that.”
Netflix has teased that the new season will focus on Benedict, the bohemian second eldest Bridgerton son, who is reluctant to settle down despite his elder and younger brothers being happily married. The synopsis hints at a captivating love story, stating, “Despite his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, Benedict is loath to settle down — until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.”
