Cameron Diaz To Star In Netflix’s “Bad Day”

Cameron Diaz is not just dipping a toe back into Hollywood. She’s jumping in with both feet, and maybe even a few flying kicks. The beloved Charlie’s Angels star is set to lead a new Netflix action-comedy titled Bad Day, and according to PEOPLE, the movie begins filming this fall in New York and New Jersey. Directed by Jake Szymanski (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates) and written by Laura Solon (Let It Snow), the film is expected to deliver a wild, emotional ride with a few belly laughs along the way.
In Bad Day, Cameron plays a single mom who’s just trying to keep one tiny promise to her daughter… on what turns out to be the worst day of her life.
This marks Cameron’s second film since returning from her ten-year acting break; a break she spent enjoying life with her husband, Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, and raising their two kids, daughter Raddix, 5, and baby boy Cardinal, who was born earlier this year.
Her first return role is in Back in Action, where she stars opposite longtime friend and collaborator Jamie Foxx. That project also features Glenn Close and proves that Cameron isn’t here to play it safe. Rather, she is jumping into high-energy projects that let her have fun and flex all the acting muscles she’s missed using.
And if that’s not enough Cameron for you, she is also returning as the iconic green heroine Princess Fiona in Shrek 5, set to hit theaters in December 2026. This time around, Fiona and Shrek’s teenage daughter Felicia will be voiced by none other than Zendaya.
Back in January, Cameron opened up on The Graham Norton Show about how grateful she felt to return to Hollywood. Crediting Jamie Foxx for encouraging her comeback, she said that the fact “that the door was even open for me after a decade was amazing.” While she loved her time away from the industry, she realized, “If I let this go away… and if I don’t give it a chance, I am a fool.”
Still, Cameron is keeping her options open. In a previous interview with Empire, she said she is not committing to acting full-time. “I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to,” she stated.
