Christopher McQuarrie Says “Mission: Impossible Finale” Will Leave You Breathless
Tom Cruise is gearing up for his final mission as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, and the anticipation is sky-high. Speaking to Empire magazine, Christopher revealed an unforgettable reaction from an early screening. “We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack,’” he shared. “And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right.’”

Production for The Final Reckoning spanned stunning global locations, including Malta, Norway, South Africa, and the U.K. After halting in July 2023 due to the Hollywood writers and actors’ strikes, filming resumed in March 2024, fueling even more anticipation for Tom’s farewell as Hunt.
Originally titled Dead Reckoning Part Two, the film changed its name in October 2023 to emphasize its role as the series finale. The movie is set to hit theaters on May 23, marking the culmination of nearly three decades of Mission: Impossible adventures.
Even as he bids farewell to Ethan Hunt, Tom, now 62, continues to push the boundaries of filmmaking. He’s working on a third Top Gun film, a collaboration with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and a long-awaited project to shoot a movie in outer space. Tom last updated fans on the space film in July 2023, saying he has been “working on it diligently.”
