Euphoria Star Hunter Schafer Joins New Hunger Games Prequel Cast

Hunter Schafer is now on the cast list for Lionsgate’s Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. 

Shafer will be playing Tigris Snow, the cousin of future President Snow. She is one of the people closest to Snow, so there is hope that Shafer will receive a solid amount of screen time. Known for her role as Jules in Euphoria, Hunter Shafer has made quite a debut in film. She has also written and helped direct her own special episode on Euphoria. 

What is Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes about?

The story centers around the Snow family, during the Tenth Hunger Games. The family is struggling due to the after effects of war. 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (future President Snow) is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from District 12. 

When Lucy shakes Panem by singing during the reaping, Snow realizes that they may be able to work together towards success. Using crafted showmanship, the two work to use politics to their advantage. 

In the end, one of them will be the songbird, while the other ends up a snake. There are some dark themes at work in this story, taking a dystopian worldview on class differences and revolution. 

Who else will star in this prequel?

West Side Story star Rachel Zegler will be playing Lucy Gray Baird alongside Tom Blyth, who will be playing Coriolanus Snow. Starring alongside these main characters will be Nick Benson, Laurel Marsden, Lilly Cooper, Luna Steeples, and Josh Andrés Rivera.

Francis Lawrence will return to direct this prequel, as well as Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson in production. 

This Hunger Games prequel was just written by Suzanne Collins in 2020. After the book’s major and immediate success, the original Hunger Games directors and producers began creating a vision for the new movie. 

The film is set to arrive in theaters worldwide on November 17, 2023. It is planned for filming to begin early to mid 2022, so we can anticipate more information to come as they wrap up casting and move on with the process.
