Golden Globe Nominees: Kevin Costner Finally Gets The Nod
The nominee list for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards is out. The highly anticipated and star-studded gathering is set to shine on January 10, 2023, at Beverly Hills.
And Yellowstone has made the list. This is after plenty of snubs from both the movie and TV industries. Veteran actor Kevin Costner has finally received a nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series category.
All the nominees were announced earlier this morning on NBC’s Today show. The nominees are all pegged as deserving, and there were no extreme upsets, although there were a few surprises, like Harry Styles and Florence Pugh not making a list.
Brendan Fraser has been nominated for Best Actor for his performance in The Whale, but recall that Brendan had previously promised not to attend the Globe Awards in a boycott against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
This was to do with Philip Berk, the former HFPA president, who accused the BLM of a hate movement and groped Brendan at a luncheon. Since then, Philip was banned and replaced by Helen Hoehne.
Leading all the nominees is The Banshees of Inisherin, featuring Colin Farrell. It is nominated in eight different categories.
Everything Everywhere All At Once comes close with six nominations.
Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Elvis are all vying for Best Picture. The Crown, which has received some controversy with how Princess Diana and the rest of the Royal Family’s story was presented, also has a number of nominations.
For the Limited Series classifications, The White Lotus appears to be a forerunner, with actresses Aubrey Plaza and Jennifer Coolidge getting nominated for the Best Supporting Actresses category. The Netflix success Dahmer, whose story revolves around serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, garnered four nominations.
Elvis actor Austin Butler has a chance for the Best Actor in a Drama award. At the same time, Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Princess Diana in The Crown, is the likely winner for Best Actress in a Drama. Jonathan Pryce, from the same series, was also recognized for his role as Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.
The upcoming 2023 awards mark the comeback of the plagued HPFA after the organization landed center in a racism issue in 2021. It came to light that the 87-person association doesn’t have a single black member.
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey called out and drew attention to what’s happening behind the scenes in their monologue in February 2021. The empowered ladies stated, “The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is made up of around 90 international no black journalists who attend movie junkets each year in search of a better life. We say around 90 because a couple of them might be ghosts.”
With this, stars threatened to boycott the Golden Globes with Tom Cruise, who has won thrice in the past, committed to returning all his awards unless some changes happen.
The 2023 ceremony has 27 awards, and comedian Jerrod Carmichael will host it.
