Holly Marie Combs Reflects On Final Moments With Shannen Doherty, Reveals Shannen Thought She Had “More Time”
Holly Marie Combs recently opened up about the last months of her beloved Charmed co-star, Shannen Doherty. The two were working on a new podcast, The House of Halliwell, alongside fellow cast members Brian Krause and Drew Fuller, right up until Shannen’s passing on July 13.
In a heartfelt episode of the podcast, Holly, 50, shared that Shannen, who had been battling cancer for years, believed she had more time. Referring to their new podcast venture, Holly stated, “That’s one of the saddest parts to me is that she was really looking forward to this. And she was actually really looking forward to watching the episodes with Rose [McGowan]. And one of the last times I was with her, we actually watched the first two episodes together like we were freaking teenagers again.”
“And, we sat in her office and watched the episodes together before we recorded this. I’ve had a little bit of time to reflect on that and everything worked out,” she fondly recalled, “We sat in her office and watched the episodes together before we recorded this.
She then became emotional, adding, “I think she did as much as she could in the time that she had. But, we did think we had more time.”
Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Holly shared, “And that’s the really sad part is, you know, we had big, big plans for this year. And, she didn’t think she was going anywhere anytime soon. And that’s you know, it sounds terribly cliché, until it happens to you.”
Holly’s voice broke as she continued, “Life changes on a dime… “I want everyone to know she was super happy to be here and she was really happy to watch it again with fresh eyes as she kept saying. And she became a fan. She watched it like an audience member.”
Drew added that Shannen had “all these incredible plans” before her death. “We were talking about moving, building a new house in Tennessee, and possibly living in Italy. She acted as if, and her energy felt as if she was gonna be here for as long as we were,” she said.
Holly responded, “She was gonna outlive us all. And there are many times I firmly believed that. When things took a turn and it happened very quickly, it was very shocking. It sounds silly to say when someone has a terminal disease, but it was still very shocking, and it was shocking to her.”
“She just wanted to do so much more than her body was able to let her do. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who had such an enthusiasm for life because, lord knows, I do not,” Holly added with a laugh. “I’m fairly jaded, and she just wanted to do more and see more.”
