It’s A Grey’s Anatomy Reunion As Ellen Pompeo And Patrick Dempsey Share The Carpet At Anaheim’s D23 Expo

Grey’s Anatomy lead stars Ellen Pompeo, and Patrick Dempsey had a sudden reunion as they both attended and shared the red carpet at last Saturday’s D23 Expo in Anaheim.

The two played the powerful roles of Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd from Season 1 to Season 11 of the medical drama series. The two celebrities grabbed the moment to remember their onscreen characters and undeniable chemistry.

Patrick sported a new look with blonde locks. At one point, he took over Yahoo’s Kevin Plowly’s microphone and asked Ellen some questions like a journalist. The 52-year-old actor joked to his onscreen wife, “Someone is missing from the show. I can’t think of who it is. Someone is missing that was a big part of the show, and it’s not the same.”

To this lighthearted banter, Ellen replied, “Justin Chambers,” referring to the actor who played Dr. Alex Karev for the last 16 seasons.

Following this impromptu Q&A, Ellen confessed to Extra TV that she would want to work with Patrick again in the future, remarking that what she and Patrick did on Grey’s Anatomy was iconic, and they had a terrific and fun experience working together. 

Patrick shared the same sentiment and stated that he had a couple of ideas on how he and Ellen could work together and be back on screen again. The actor had nothing but positive words for his longtime co-star, sharing with everyone that they have an exceptional relationship onscreen and behind the camera.

The Made of Honor actor further reminisced on when they first met, noting how Ellen, who had a Boston accent, and he, originally from Maine, had a connection right away.

Amidst the chaos of the emergency rooms and the impressive surgeries in Grey’s Anatomy, his and Dr. Meredith’s chemistry is a significant factor in why plenty of people follow the series. The onscreen chemistry between these two doctors is what fans enjoy. Aside from the everyday miracles of saving lives and successful surgeries, Dr. Meredith and Dr. Derek appeal to everyone’s inherent need to believe in and stay in love against all odds.

Plenty of Grey’s Anatomy fans worldwide wish that he and Ellen were in a real-life relationship, and Patrick acknowledged this. But of course, Ellen has Christopher (Ivery), and Patrick has Jillian (Fink)—incredible partners they’re both thankful for.

This mutual respect, love, and appreciation Ellen and Patrick have for each other is evident. This comes after about ten months after Isaiah Washington, another former co-star of the series, claimed that Ellen was secretly paid $5 million to remain quiet about Patrick’s debatable behaviors on the set.

Isaiah Washington, who played Dr. Preston Burke in Seasons 1 to 3, stated in his interviews with KBLA Talk 1580 that Ellen was paid this hush money so she wouldn’t talk publicly about Patrick’s nasty and toxic behavior. It can be noted that while Isaiah was still part of the medical drama, there was a rise in Hollywood celebrities being accused of workplace conduct.

 While Ellen and Patrick were both honored as Legends at the Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Patrick is also in attendance to promote Disenchanted, an Enchanted sequel.
