Jack Lowden Sets His Sights On Directing Wife Saoirse Ronan In Future Film
Jack Lowden, known for his role in the hit series Slow Horses, has revealed his next big ambition: directing a movie starring his talented wife, Saoirse Ronan. The 34-year-old Scottish actor recently shared his excitement about moving behind the camera and creating something special with Ronan, who he describes as one of the best actors in the industry today.
Jack and Saoirse, who tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Edinburgh last month, first met on the set of Mary Queen of Scots in 2018, where they played the ill-fated couple Mary Stuart and Lord Darnley. Their on-screen chemistry soon blossomed into a real-life romance, and the couple has been inseparable ever since, even producing a film together—The Outrun, a drama set in Orkney with Ronan in the lead role.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jack couldn’t help but gush about his 30-year-old wife. “She is first and foremost one of the elite actors that’s working, even given how young she still is,” he said, adding, “It’s inevitable that if actors are together, you will be drawn towards making something together. We have always fantasized about it.”
Their shared passion for filmmaking has only grown stronger, and Jack is eager to take their collaboration to the next level by stepping into the director’s chair. “I would love to direct her, so it’s quite exciting to see what we do. The best directors of actors I have ever worked with have been actors,” he said.
Jack’s admiration for Saoirse extends beyond her acting skills. He praised her poise and professionalism, recalling how even at 23 years old during the filming of Mary Queen of Scots, she was “completely and utterly unfazed by anything.”
The couple’s marriage, which took place in a low-key ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers on July 17, was attended by only a handful of close friends and family. Despite their growing fame, Jack and Saoirse have managed to keep their relationship private, often shying away from public discussions about their personal lives.
In fact, the couple went to great lengths to deny their relationship in its early days. In 2019, when a reporter asked Saoirse if she was dating “the person everyone thinks you’re going out with,” she simply replied, “No.” Jack, too, has remained tight-lipped, telling ES Magazine that he doesn’t like talking about his personal life.
However, the pair has occasionally given fans a glimpse into their love story. Earlier this summer, they were spotted arm-in-arm at the Glastonbury Music Festival in England, sharing a rare, affectionate moment on Instagram.
Jack’s journey to stardom has been a gradual one. Originally dreaming of becoming a footballer, he eventually found his calling in acting, studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. His big break came in 2016 with War and Peace, and he has since become a household name, particularly after his role in Mary Queen of Scots.
