Kit Harington Admits He Can’t Watch “House Of The Dragon”
Kit Harington, beloved for his role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones, has confessed that he hasn’t watched its prequel series, House of the Dragon, and doesn’t plan to. The 37-year-old actor shared his sentiments at the New York City premiere of Industry season 3, explaining that the memories of Westeros are still too fresh.
“I just can’t watch it. I think it’s just, for me, I spent too long there. And I wish them all the best and I hear it’s wonderful and going really well, but I don’t think I’ll ever watch that show,” Kit told the Associated Press.
Kit also revealed that he doesn’t foresee rewatching Game of Thrones anytime soon. “It’s taken a few years to put it in the rearview – I’m still unsure whether it is fully in the rearview mirror. I think it takes a long time,” he shared.
This isn’t entirely surprising, given Kit’s deep connection to the series. He met his wife, Rose Leslie, on the show and was very emotional during his farewell. In footage from the HBO documentary The Last Watch, Kit expressed his heartfelt attachment, saying, “I feel like my heart is breaking. I love this show more than, I think, anything. It has never been a job for me. It’s been my life and this will always be the greatest thing I’ll ever do and be a part of.”
Although there were discussions about a spinoff series focusing on Jon Snow, Kit confirmed in April that the project is now “off the table.” He told Screen Rant that the spinoff was “firmly on the shelf” as the team “couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were excited about enough.”
Kit isn’t the only Game of Thrones alum who hasn’t tuned into House of the Dragon. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen, told PEOPLE in June that she “still can’t” watch the prequel series.
“I just don’t know what it is. I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd,” she said.
Like Kit, Emilia supports the new series despite not watching it. Revealing that she finds the spinoff’s success “absolutely amazing,” she stated, “I really so fully support the entire thing and everyone who’s made it and it’s beautiful how successful it’s been.”
