Nate Richert Reveals He’s Only Watched Two Episodes Of “Sabrina The Teenage Witch”
For many fans, Sabrina the Teenage Witch remains a cherished ’90s classic. But for Nate Richert, who played Harvey Kinkle, Sabrina’s lovable high school sweetheart, the show isn’t something he regularly revisits. During an interview at 90s Con in Daytona Beach, Florida, the 46-year-old actor revealed a surprising fact: he’s only watched two full episodes of the beloved series.
“I watched the first one we ever did because Melissa [Joan Hart] had a party and made us all come over and watch it,” Nate shared with a laugh.
“And then I watched the first one she ever directed because she had a party and made us come over [to] watch it,” he added.
While Nate rarely tuned in back in the day, things have shifted recently — and his teenage son might be the reason why. “I have recently, I’ve seen a little,” he admitted. His 14-year-old has been catching up on the nostalgic series, giving Nate a chance to revisit his time as Harvey.
Seeing his former co-stars at 90s Con felt like a big family reunion for Nate. Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina Spellman), Soleil Moon Frye (Roxie King), Jenna Leigh Green (Libby Chessler), and Elisa Donovan (Morgan Cavanaugh) were all present for the fan event. But one notable character was missing: Salem, the sassy talking cat who often stole the show with his sharp humor.
Nate revealed some behind-the-scenes secrets about everyone’s favorite feline sidekick. “I was told that, now I never counted, but when there was a real cat involved, I was told there were 13 of them,” he said. According to him, each cat had a specific talent — one was great at wearing clothes, another excelled at climbing ladders. When it came to the animatronic version of Salem, things got even more interesting.
As he explained: “And then when we had the animatronic cat talking, this woman would be in the furniture. So if the cat was on the back of the couch, you knew that she might be in the couch. So don’t sit down too hard ’cause you’ll crush her.”
The cast also reflected on what a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot might look like, especially with Salem’s sometimes edgy humor. “Some of Salem’s lines might have to change,” Melissa joked, adding, “Like he might’ve been a little racy, might have been a little inappropriate. There were things that went over kids’ heads that were for the adults. But that was mainly Salem’s lines.”
