Nicole Kidman And Harris Dickinson Reveal How They Filmed Steamy Scenes in “Babygirl”
Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson are set to heat up the screen in their upcoming erotic drama Babygirl, but the stars are giving fans a glimpse behind the scenes of how they approached filming their steamy moments together. In a recent chat with Variety, the pair revealed the delicate process behind bringing their characters’ intense romance to life.
Harris, known for The Iron Claw and Triangle of Sadness, shared that he and Nicole worked closely with the movie’s intimacy coordinator to create a safe and comfortable environment before diving into the intimate scenes.
As he explained, they “kind of did our own thing with it once we set the parameters of what we were both comfortable with.”
He praised the coordinator for guiding them through the process without disrupting the flow of the scenes. “They’re facilitating that and doing it very delicately without interrupting the actual scene,” he stated.
In Babygirl, Nicole plays a high-powered CEO whose life spirals when she begins a passionate affair with Harris’s character, her much younger intern. The chemistry between them is electric, but the actors made sure to build trust before shooting these vulnerable moments.
When asked what the most challenging part of filming Babygirl was, Nicole joked, “The whole thing.”
But in all seriousness, the Academy Award-winning actress explained that she had to stay open and raw throughout the filming process. “Actually doing it justice and trying to be open and raw and available each day in every which way to explore,” she shared. “Because the nature of that film, it was either going to be completely vulnerable and exposed, or you were going to be protected, and then the thing wouldn’t connect.”
Nicole added that working with director Helena made all the difference in creating a safe space for the actors to fully commit to their roles. “When I met with Helena, and we talked through it, I was just like, ‘Just give us a safe space,’ and then, ‘Please don’t make me look like a fool,’” she said with a laugh.
Harris, who plays her much younger lover, couldn’t help but gush about working alongside Nicole. The young actor admitted he was in awe of her the entire time. “I kept pinching myself every day,” Harris said. “Subtly, I kept asking her things like, ‘What was it like working with Stanley Kubrick?’” He described Nicole as “the most comforting, warm performer to work across from” and praised her daring spirit.
“She sets the tone on set,” he continued, “and she makes it so easy to be vulnerable and to be funny, because she is so daring. He’s so brave, and she does stuff, and you’re like, ‘What the fuck is that?’ You can’t even think of it. And she’s just got this innate sense of playfulness. And when you have that on set, everything’s so easy.”
Also starring Sophie Wilde from Talk to Me and Antonio Banderas as Nicole’s character’s husband, Babygirl promises to be a daring and emotional ride. The film hits theaters on December 25, just in time for a sizzling holiday season.
