Pretty Little Liars Has Returned With a New Spin-off
Since the original Pretty Little Liars ended in 2017, there hasn’t been much commotion from the franchise since Pretty Little Liars: The PerfectionistsI, which was canceled after just one season. The classic high school drama is back with a spin-off titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.
This new spin-off is set in the town Millwood, where residents are still dealing with the grief of a tragic event that happened 20 years ago. A group of friends find themselves the target of a masked assailant who has it out for them. They are being targeted because of the secret sins their parents committed two decades ago, when tragedy struck. As they face the wrath of this attacker, their own deepest and darkest secrets are threatened with exposure.
Although we are no longer viewing a story based in Rosewood, it is still a similar setup. A small town, with darker things going on in the background. One of the major differences between this spin-off and this original is that this show will be much darker, with a promise of more horror-themed drama.
This revival seems to be more of a show inspired by the original Pretty Little Liars rather than a story following the events of the original. The two shows seem to exist in different universes, although we may see some connections appear later on.
Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Malia Pyles, and Maia Reficco are some of the friends who will form the main protagonist friend groups known by A as The Liars. Bailee Madison has been in film since she was a girl, with her first acting gig taking place in 2006 when she was just 7 years old.
The creator of this spin-off is Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also the creator and producer of Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Both of those shows focus on coming of age stories based off of other stories that have already been told, so Roberto has had experience in this field. Those shows also both have dark twists on the high school experience, and always focus on mystery, murder, and whole lot of drama.
Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin will have the first few episodes ready to stream on HBO Max on July 28, 2022.
