Ryan Reynolds And Channing Tatum Celebrate Gambit’s Big Screen Debut In “Deadpool & Wolverine”
Ryan Reynolds is expressing his gratitude to the A-listers who made unforgettable cameos in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and Channing Tatum is at the top of his list. Ryan, 47, took to Instagram on August 5 to praise Channing, 44, for finally bringing the beloved X-Men character, Gambit/Remy LeBeau, to life.
“Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play,” Ryan wrote alongside a series of behind-the-scenes photos of Tatum.
“His story is similar to my road on Deadpool — in that Chan spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen.”
Channing had been linked to Gambit since 2006, when he was considered for the role in X-Men: The Last Stand. Though the character was ultimately written out, Channing never gave up on his dream. He even wore a Gambit T-shirt to the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con, where Ryan unveiled the first footage of the original Deadpool.
The journey was long and fraught with setbacks. Multiple directors came and went, and the project was canceled in 2019 after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Despite these hurdles, Channing’s passion for the character never waned.
Ryan continued, “Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal. Some characters can only exist with a one in a billion pairing, and this is it. Gambit found his author in Chan. He’s one of the coolest, smartest characters in comics and still largely unexplored.”
Channing’s portrayal of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine has been met with overwhelming praise. Fans and critics alike have been thrilled to see the character finally done justice on the big screen. “I want more — and from what I saw in theaters, you do too,” Ryan added, highlighting the audience’s positive reception.
Channing shared his excitement and gratitude on Instagram, thanking Ryan and director Shawn Levy for their unwavering support. “I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and Gambit,” he wrote.
”I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy. Shawn Levy as well. Truly such a brilliant creator on every single level. All things happen for a reason. I’m so grateful to be in this movie. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure bad a– joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!” he added.
