Ryan Reynolds And Hugh Jackman Light Up The Red Carpet For Deadpool & Wolverine Premiere
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman brought star power to the red carpet on Monday, July 22, for the world premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City. The event marked the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, featuring Ryan and Hugh as the titular superheroes.
At the premiere, both actors shared insights with PEOPLE about the joys and challenges of bringing their children to work on an MCU film set. Ryan, 47, and his wife Blake Lively share four children – 9-year-old James, 7-year-old Inez, 4-year-old Betty, and a newborn from 2023. Hugh, 55, and his former wife Deborra-lee have two children – 23-year-old Oscar and 19-year-old Ava.
Ryan joked about his kids’ behavior, particularly highlighting his youngest daughter’s fascination with Hugh. “My four-year-old Betty sort of loves Hugh, like unconditionally,” he revealed, while Jackman chuckled beside him. “And she expresses that love through unblinking violence. She attacks him, thinking she has claws and he has a healing factor — which he might,” the Deadpool actor continued.
On the fashion front, Hugh looked dapper in a dark navy blue suit with a matching button-down, while Ryan sported a classic black suit and crisp white shirt, accented with an embroidered red and yellow heart symbolizing Deadpool and Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine follows the dynamic duo as they team up to defeat a common enemy, according to the official synopsis. The supporting cast includes Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as the Japanese mutant ninja Yukio, and Emma Corrin and Jennifer Garner, with Jennifer reprising her role as Elektra from the 2003 Daredevil film.
The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Ryan on 2021’s Free Guy and 2022’s The Adam Project. Shawn recalled first meeting Ryan for a project that never materialized but immediately hitting it off — a connection Hugh had predicted back in 2010.
“Hugh said, ‘For what it’s worth, if you ever meet and work with Ryan Reynolds, you’re never going to stop,’” Levy shared, referencing their time on the set of Real Steel.
Despite their playful social media banter, Ryan and Hugh share a deep, brotherly bond. “We rely on each other for the real kind of advice that you want,” Ryan shared in a June 10 PEOPLE cover story.
