Ryan Reynolds And Robert Downey Jr. Rumored Marvel Feud Shut Down
Ryan Reynolds and Robert Downey Jr. may both be Marvel giants, but despite swirling rumors, the two aren’t clashing behind the scenes. In fact, they have never even met.
A source confirmed to PEOPLE that there is “zero bad blood” between the stars after multiple outlets claimed the actors had a falling out on the set of Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The speculation, fueled by reports from podcasts and fan sites, suggested that a joke gone too far had caused tension. Social media quickly latched onto the idea, pointing fingers at Ryan, 48, and Robert, 60.
But the insider shut the chatter down quickly. “The two have never met in person,” the source said, dismissing the supposed feud entirely.
The gossip may have gained traction because Robert is indeed part of Avengers: Doomsday (not as Iron Man, but reportedly as Doctor Doom) while Ryan’s involvement as Deadpool hasn’t been confirmed. His last Marvel outing, Deadpool & Wolverine, was a blockbuster in 2024 and officially merged his foul-mouthed antihero into the MCU.
Robert, meanwhile, has been back on set and making an impression. Fantastic Four star Joseph Quinn recently told PEOPLE that Robert was offering encouragement and wisdom while filming the new Avengers movie. “He’s an amazing leader. He’s so generous, he’s hilarious, and he’s a remarkable actor. There’s no shock as to why he is where he is,” Quinn said.
As for Ryan, he has been more focused on balancing his career with family life. Joking to Extra last year, he admitted that the Deadpool films take over his world: “It just sort of swallows my life whole.” He added that he wouldn’t mind spending more time at home with his and Blake Lively’s four kids, even if fans are already begging for another sequel.
The truth is, Robert and Ryan’s only public “showdown” was a lighthearted one back in 2019, when they bantered through videos while competing in a celebrity fantasy football league. Robert teased him with a cheeky “Eat me,” and Ryan responded by chomping down on a cookie decorated with Robert’s face.
For now, the Marvel universe continues to expand. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
