Wednesday And Star Actress Jenna Ortega Faces Backlash For Exposing Cast And Crew To COVID-19 During Filming
Admitting that she filmed her iconic dance scene in Netflix film Wednesday while exhibiting coronavirus symptoms did not end well for Jenna Ortega. The move was not in any way seen as a heroic one by social media users who heavily condemned her risky move.
The Jane The Virgin actress revealed that she experienced intense body aches and other symptoms of COVID-19 while filming. “I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus,” she told NME in an interview.
“They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result,” she added. Only when she received a positive test was she removed from the set.
Fans have since been curious about the safety protocols on set during the shooting, which took place in Busteni, a small town in Romania, between September 2021 and March 2022.
For one Twitter user, continuing to shoot despite knowing she was at risk of infecting others with the virus was dangerous, unethical, and selfish on Jenna’s part, as well as on the part of the directors and producers who enabled it. “There’s absolutely no positive way to spin an actress knowingly exposing hundreds of cast members and crew to COVID,” the user wrote.
Another fan pointed out that the Disney star’s filming of the dance scene in such unsafe conditions is not impressive. Not wanting it to end on social media, the woman added that she hopes to see the 20-year-old actress’s interview where she made the admission get cited in a lawsuit.
A third user expressed the belief that she should have been sent home as this is not a case of “persevering through hardship” but a case where she could potentially infect others.
Some users’ imaginations went wild as they wondered how many people got sick from Jenna’s carelessness and how many people those people got sick.
While Jenna had some on her side, the overall reaction towards her reveal was outrageous as many strongly believed that working while feeling very sick and waiting on a COVID test result which ended up coming out positive was not the flex she thought it was.The subject of controversy played the role of gothic teen Wednesday in the new eponymous spin-off about the Adams Family. The series has done impressively since its release, achieving a record-making 341.2 million viewing hours, as revealed by Netflix. It also reportedly charted #1 in 83 countries, topping Stranger Things.
