Wednesday is Renewed For Season 2!
Fans of the Netflix hit show “Wednesday” can rejoice! It’s finally official that the series will be renewed for a second season. This news should come as no surprise, however, given its raging success with viewers of all ages.
This Addams Family spinoff focuses on the only daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams — Wednesday. The show follows the life of the gothic teenager — portrayed by Jenna Ortega — as she transfers to Nevermore Academy, a boarding school.
During an interview with Tudum.com last Friday, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the show’s creators, executive producers, and showrunners, stated, “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world.”
They are thrilled that the morbid teenager’s tortuous journey will continue in season 2. They continued, “We can’t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
During its debut week, Wednesday earned a record-breaking 341.23 million viewing hours! On December 13, 2022, the series crossed 1 billion viewing hours worldwide, with more and more viewers talking about the Tim Burton-helmed series.
So far, it is tied with Stranger Things being the top show globally — across 83 countries, to be exact.
In a tweet, Netflix stated, “Wednesday now holds the record for most hours viewed in a week for an English-language series on Netflix, with 341.2 million hours!”
“The series — starring Jenna Ortega from EPs Tim Burton, Al Gough & Miles Millar — is #1 in 83 countries, tying the record set by Stranger Things 4.”
The series landed on Netflix last November and has propelled straight to the most-watched list, even beating other raved-about series like 1899, The Crown, and Dead to Me.
Wednesday also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as the matriarch Morticia Addams and Luis Guzman as Gomez. Of course, the family is not complete without the kooky Uncle Fester, played by Fred Armisen, and Wednesday’s brother Pugsley played by Isaac Ordonez.
In the previous 1991 Addams Family and 1993 Addams Family Values movies, Wednesday Addams was portrayed by Christina Ricci. Ricci also appeared in a cameo in this new Wednesday adaptation, playing Miss Thornhill.
Before the official statement that the series will be renewed for Season 2, Alfred Gough hinted at the possibility of a follow-up, stating that there’s more to be explored in the world of the Addams family.
The show’s creators also noted that while the show’s highlight is and will always be Wednesday, they are also ready to explore the lives of the other family members.
Wednesday has been nominated in the Best TV series category, while Jenna Ortega has been nominated as Best Actress for the Musical/Comedy category at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
