Billy Ray Cyrus And Son Braison Team Up For New Album Amid Family Drama
Country star Billy Ray Cyrus is back in the studio — but this time, he’s not alone. The 62-year-old singer is collaborating with his son, Braison Cyrus, on a deeply personal album set for release in 2025. This marks Billy Ray’s first project since The SnakeDoctor Circus in 2019, and for Braison, it’s a rare chance to connect with his father through music. Braison, 30, took to Instagram to share the news, posting a black-and-white photo with his dad. “I’ve spent this past year getting to know my dad better than I ever have,” he wrote.
“It’s a rare opportunity to make something this special and tell my dad’s story through music. Can’t wait to finally share it.”
The announcement comes after Billy Ray spent a week in the hospital last fall, an experience that Braison said made him grateful his father is now “happy, healthy, and ready to make this record.”
Not everyone in the Cyrus family is celebrating. Billy Ray’s son Trace, 35, recently made a public plea for his father to seek help. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Trace wrote, “You’re not healthy, Dad, & everyone is noticing it.”
He went on to express how much he once idolized his father, but now barely recognizes him. “Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away,” Trace added. He also claimed that their sister Noah, 25, has “desperately” wanted Billy Ray to be part of her life but hasn’t received the attention she deserves.
Billy Ray’s struggles have been making headlines, especially following his much-criticized performance at Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball. The country singer cited “technical difficulties” after being forced to sing a cappella. His ex-wife Firerose later addressed the incident, telling Page Six that the public is now seeing what she experienced in private. “Healing is only possible when you confront the truth and accept there’s a problem,” the Australian singer said.
Despite the controversy, Billy Ray is focused on the music. In a press release, he expressed pride in working with Braison, calling it “art imitating life, imitating art.”
“This record is gonna be special,” he said, adding, “I’m gearing up for what will be the journey of a lifetime.”
Braison echoed the sentiment, saying he has heard stories, jokes, and songs from his dad that no one else has. “It’s an opportunity to tell my dad’s story through music and I’m fortunate to be able to take it. Music, stories, and family are the most important things to my dad, so to bring the two together is a full-circle endeavor.”
