Taylor Swift Wins Four Prizes At The MTV EMAs
Taylor Swift is enjoying success and recognition after winning four prestigious gongs at last Sunday’s MTV EMAs at Germany’s Düsseldorf’s PSD Bank Dome.
The star-studded awards night nearly became Taylor’s night, as the 32-year-old singer brought home the coveted Best Long Form Video and Best Video for her song All Too Well (Taylor’s Version). The 10-minute version bested the entries of other forerunner global stars like Stormzy and veteran Foo Fighters.
The singer-songwriter also had another entry nominated for the Best Long Form Video category—her video for the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium, London.
Taylor bagged other prizes, the Best Artist and the Best Pop prizes, last night. She was also nominated under the Biggest Fans category, but the BTS Army proved stronger than the Swifties.
When Taylor accepted her first award from Julian, John Lennon’s singer son, she told the audience how it felt good to be back at the EMAs. Taylor complimented everyone in the audience and said that everyone looked beautiful.
She then got a little personal by sharing that she directed and wrote her music videos for the longest time, but All Too Well was the first one she made that falls under a short film category. She appreciated the process and what she learned while creating the film.
Taylor also further shared that making the short film was somehow a natural extension of her music and songwriting. It was another way to tell a story.
Afterward, the 5’11” beauty expressed gratitude to the actors who brought life to the music video. She thanked Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien and mentioned how these two actors contributed to her positive experiences.
The track was a hit, but it also encouraged momentum among fans earlier this year when it was speculated to be based on Taylor calling it quits with ex-boyfriend Jake Gyllenhaal. And if the song is, there’s nothing new to it because Taylor has been known to put her personal stories and feelings into her songs.
Muse, the British band, bagged the Best Rock prize at the show. They performed their Will Of The People song at the beginning of the awards night, treating the audience to an electric performance that set the mood for the evening.
The night of celebration also marked the 6th time it was held in Germany. This year, singer and songwriter Rita Ora and Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi hosted the MTV Europe Music Awards.
The power couple usually keeps their relationship out of the spotlight, and this is the first time they were seen working together.
Nicki Minaj also went home happy after her Super Freaky Girl single won in the Best Song category. She also won the Best Hip Hop award. Meanwhile, singer Bebe Rexha and DJ David Guetta got the Best Collaboration award for their smash song I’m Good (Blue).
The boy band Seventeen won the Best New Artist Award, Anitta won the Best Latin Award, and David Guetta won in the Best Electronic Category. Lisa of BlackPink took the Best K-Pop gong award.
