James Cameron’s Avatar 2 Is One Expensive Film, With The Final Trailer Released
James Cameron has made a name in the history of films. The powerful and talented director has movies that have become classics under his name. Like the Titanic, The Terminator series, Aliens, The Abyss, and True Lies, films directed by Cameron are expected to be hits.
One of the much-anticipated movies under his directorship is Avatar 2, which is believed to have broken some milestones even under James Cameron movie standards.
When asked how much it cost to make, the 68-year-old Canadian filmmaker mentioned to GQ that Avatar 2 was explicitly expensive.
And although the director did not specifically mention just how expensive it was, he did use an analogy to prove his point and to give viewers an idea of the expenditure involved.
James shared that Avatar: The Way of Water needs to either rank as the third or fourth highest-grossing film throughout history. The director stated that to break even the cost, being third or fourth was the minimum expectation.
He also referred to Avatar 2 as the worst business case in the movie’s history.
As of date, the original Avatar movie that made its premiere in 2009 is still considered the highest-grossing movie of all time. The budget for the first movie was pegged at $237 million, and it grossed $2.9 million worldwide.
For Avatar: The Way of Water to meet its threshold, it should be able to knock Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens off its current #4 rank, grossing $2.69 billion.
The GC interview of the multi-awarded director came out the same day as the final trailer of his movie. This was a close call because the film is already scheduled for release next month.
The Avatar 2 trailer begins with the Na’vi tribe members sitting on their Ikrans or flying pterodactyl-like creatures. Then Jake Sully, played by Sam Worthington, and Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldaña, seek refuge with their children in another tribe, given that humans are destroying the forest with massive machines.
The leader of the new tribe tells his people to treat Jake’s and Neytiri’s children as their brothers and sisters and to teach the young ones the ways of their tribe. In the background, a small voice refers to one of Sully’s children as a forest boy.
The Na’vis are then seen in a death-defying scene, thanks to the humans burning their lands with flamethrowers and bringing destruction to their beautiful home.
Avatar 2: The Way of Water has most of the original cast—Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver. But new characters played by Vin Diesel and Kate Winslet will join them.
This second installment shows Jake living and accepting the Navi life and establishing his family in Pandora. And once again, a threat, thanks to the humans, would have him working with Neytiri and the entire Navi race to protect Pandora at all costs.
This much-awaited movie is set for release on December 16, 2022.
