Billie Eilish Shares Her Despair And Hopelessness Because Of Her Gender
It is empowering when young celebrities make a name for themselves in music and acting and share their not-so-pleasant and raw experiences. Often, their revelations make them more relatable and human.
And Billie Eilish shared a very vulnerable past. Yes, it’s hard to imagine the now-successful Billie crying in bed and falling into a dark hole of hopelessness just because of her gender—that she was born a girl.
The 20-year-old singer revealed that when she was younger, she believed that she would never be able to perform the way she wanted to because of the boundaries set for females in the music industry.
BBC 100 Women 2022 featured her confession as part of the project that recognized and celebrated 100 influential and inspiring women from around the globe.
The hitmaker told the broadcaster, “There was a specific period where I was in this pit of hopelessness about myself, as I didn’t have much to look up to in terms of girls like me being taken seriously.”
The Bad Guy singer also shared that she recalled crying in bed as she thought about what kind of show she wanted to put on. And because she was a girl, she felt that she would never have the kind of show she truly wanted—a show where she could be free and wild. The young singer wants to be more physically attuned to her performance.
In all honesty, Billie never imagined that her dream performances could become a reality. She further explained that she feels more empowered and powerful when leaning toward her masculine side. However, she admits that she also finds power in her femininity—a balance of both.
Billie explained that everything is based on how she stands, walks, her clothes, and her makeup and jewelry. She stated that she has always been more attuned to her masculine side. It gives her more confidence and makes her feel better.
Although she admitted that she struggled with balancing because, for the longest time, she also wanted to feel and be more feminine. Sadly, it’s just not the way she is. She enjoys rare feminine moments that make her feel wonderful.
Growing up in the spotlight, Billie described the experience as painful, especially when she was dubbed the “internet kid” and had her name and face plastered all over the place. This caused her to have difficulty knowing her identity.
Billie had developed imposter syndrome and was on a whirlwind quest to be and feel like her true self.
The good news is that Billie now has a change of heart, believing that the music industry has undoubtedly opened up to women. Lately, female singers and performers have been achieving great heights, becoming more successful than male artists, making it a promising and exciting industry.
