Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Teen Daughter Is Unhappy About Not Being Allowed To Act Until She Is 18
Almost all 90s kids grew up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was the OG when it came to slaying and being a badass. Its star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, is dead set on not letting her daughter appear in front of the camera until she turns 18 and no longer lives with her parents.
The 45-year-old actress has been married to 46-year-old Freddie Prinze Jr., the 90s Hollywood heartthrob, since 2002. They share two children, Charlotte, 13, and Rocky, 10.
Sarah told The Hollywood Reporter that she has acting rules for her daughter. When she was asked if the idea of her daughter acting scared her, she admitted that it did, but she finds relief knowing that she and her husband have guidelines in place. One of them is that Charlotte can’t be in front of the camera until she successfully graduates from high school.
The Scooby-Doo alum also shared that her daughter finds this rule unfair, given that Sarah was a child actor. In her defense, Sarah tells her daughter that she was a child actor, but she was not the child of two famous parents.
Sarah has been on TV since her mid-teens before finding global fame with her well-loved character, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, when she was in her 20s. Recall that Sarah recently stated that the set for her vampire slaying TV series was toxic.
It should be clarified, though, that Sarah, who also starred in Cruel Intentions, would never stop her daughter from being an actress and following in her parents’ footsteps. However, Sarah was clear in stating that, for now, acting is not an option, as Charlotte is still living under their roof.
The mother of two was stern in saying, “I’ll never stop her from being on a set. But she’s just not going on camera while living under our roof. There’ll be different expectations for her, so she needs to learn everything first.”
Charlotte will also be allowed to use social media once she is mature and old enough to understand how social platforms can make or break a person. Although Rocky is not interested in social media yet, mom and daughter have been discussing it constantly.
Recall that Sarah previously compared social media posts with tattoos, as the permanence of a single post is almost the same as allowing children to have face tattoos.
She admitted that their rules are stricter than those of other parents, sharing, “Our kids don’t have social media. They’re allowed to look sometimes when it’s our phones. Sometimes, our kids will be like, ‘You guys are the strictest household!'”
The actress expressed her opinion that kids are more likely to thrive in an environment where there are set boundaries. She added, “We’re not mean, we’re not unnecessarily strict, but we have rules. And the same way I abide by my code of rules, I expect the same from our children.”
