Beyoncé And Kelly Rowland Join Forces To Create Permanent Housing Complex In Houston Hometown
Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland have returned to their roots with a tremendous act of generosity. In collaboration with Harris County, they are embarking on a remarkable endeavor to establish a permanent housing complex in Houston’s midtown area. The exciting news was unveiled during a press conference on Tuesday, leaving their fans in awe.
Known as the Knowles-Rowland House, this extraordinary project carries a price tag of approximately $8.4 million. However, thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which has contributed a remarkable $7.2 million to the cause, and the support of institutions like Rice University, the vision is swiftly becoming a reality. The Bread of Life gymnasium will serve as the site for constructing 31 brand-new units of permanent housing.
When completed, the housing complex will offer an array of vital services to its residents. Case managers, peer specialists, service specialists, and dedicated support for mental and behavioral health, as well as transportation, will be readily available.
Rudy Rasmus, a respected local pastor and the executive director of Bread of Life, conveyed his heartfelt appreciation for the county’s partnership. He also acknowledged the significant impact made by Beyoncé, Kelly, and third Destiny’s Child member, Michelle Williams, over the years. The trio’s dedication has reportedly been evident through various charitable endeavors, including their early chart-topping single No, No, No, which was used to spearhead the construction of a youth center within the city.
Judge Lina Hidalgo expressed her enthusiasm, revealing plans for a grand launch event in September. This event will coincide with Beyoncé’s highly anticipated stop-by at her hometown of Houston as part of her Renaissance World Tour.
For Beyoncé, this venture is just one among many charitable initiatives she has undertaken. In April, she made headlines by announcing a generous $2 million donation through her BeyGOOD Foundation, aimed at supporting college students and entrepreneurs. Founded in 2013, BeyGOOD has been instrumental in empowering communities facing limited resources and opportunities. Through the years, the foundation has made impactful contributions to causes such as disaster relief, education and entrepreneurship funding, and nonprofit support, among others.
Reflecting on her philanthropic journey, the Irreplaceable hitmaker expressed immense pride in the work accomplished by BeyGOOD. “From scholarships to the water crisis in Burundi, to helping families during Hurricane Harvey in my hometown, Houston, it has been beyond fulfilling to be of service. Now as a foundation, we will continue the work of engaging partners through innovative programs to impact even more people,” she said, speaking to Oprah Daily.
