Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner Decide To Settle Divorce in Private
Divorce settlements are best done in private. This is what estranged couple Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner will be doing, much to their family and friends’ relief. As a result, the musician filed to dismiss the divorce case with the Game of Thrones actress after a mediation led them to agree to settle their separation in private.
The 34-year-old singer reportedly reached an agreement with his 27-year-old wife regarding the custody of their children.
Based on the court documents obtained by Page Six, various agreements were reached, and the couple plans to pursue and execute an amicable resolution regarding all their issues.
Recall that news about Joe filing for divorce broke earlier last month, with sources close to him claiming that Sophie’s hard and frequent partying had something to do with his decision. With Sophie out, Joe was forced to look after their daughters despite being on tour.
This accusation didn’t sit well with Sophie. She fired back and accused her ex-husband of refusing to hand over their children’s passports so they could travel to England with her. She used international child abduction laws as her main ground of retaliation to ensure that she could keep her children with her.
Although the petition for dissolution has already been submitted in Miami, the status of Sophie’s divorce case in her home country is still being determined.
Last Tuesday, Joe and Sophie released their statements about coming up with a temporary custody agreement. They shared them after they underwent remediation amid their brutal divorce process.
Their joint statement said, “After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK. We look forward to being great co-parents.”
In the middle of the divorce, 3-year-old Willa and 1-year-old Delphine are hugely impacted although they may not feel the full brunt of it due to their young ages. So far, the arrangement is that both parents will have two weeks at a time with their daughters until January of next year. The children can also travel between the US and the UK.
The tentative set-up will likely lead to Joe taking the girls on tour with his brothers while Sophie gets them during Christmas.
Sophie and the girls are currently staying in New York where the timely mediation happened. The four-day meeting took place from October 4 to 7 and the resolution of the custody case is expected to be clearer since it is one of the most critical aspects of the celebrity couple’s separation.
In 2016, Joe Jonas began messaging Sophie Turner on Instagram which eventually led to them meeting in person. After getting engaged in 2017, they married in 2019 in a live-streamed Las Vegas wedding, complete with an Elvis impersonator. In 2020 and 2022, they welcomed their two daughters, only to have Joe file for divorce in 2023. In the court documents, he described their marriage as “irretrievably broken.”
